Disappointing post-stay experience and poor communication We stayed at the property from 25–27 April. The property itself was suitable for our group, and we paid the required cleaning fee as part of the booking. However, the post-stay communication was extremely disappointing. Shortly after checkout, the host sent an accusatory message claiming the property had been left in a very poor state, including allegations of dog mess “all over the garden”, a “very dirty kitchen”, dirty rooms, and rubbish thrown on the floor. One small amount of dog mess had unfortunately been missed in the garden, which we acknowledged. However, we strongly disagreed with the broader allegations. We had packed the rubbish and left it where required, checked the rooms before leaving, and did not leave rubbish thrown on the floor. The kitchen photo provided by the host showed a sink with a mug/glass and small food/leaf residue, which in my view falls within normal post-stay cleaning, especially where a cleaning fee has already been paid. The main issue for us was the tone and handling of the situation. Rather than asking for clarification or providing an itemised explanation of any additional cleaning required, the host immediately used a very accusatory and disrespectful tone and said the matter had been reported to Booking.com. Overall, while the stay itself was acceptable, the post-checkout experience was unnecessarily stressful and unprofessional. Future guests, especially those staying with pets, may wish to take detailed photos before leaving to avoid similar disputes.
