Cottage in Woodfin, NC
Reasons to book
About this cottage rental
We invite well behaved dogs who have been treated for fleas and have a lovely space for being outside.
The house is rather private. It also comes complete with full kitchen, whirlpool tub, and a super comfy queen sized latex mattress.
Our guest house is perfect for an Asheville weekend getaway.
The space
The Blue Door, built in 2020, is a guest/carriage house of about 670 square feet. We are your only direct neighbors. And, though we are in close proximity to the rental, the Blue Door is still quite private.
We share a driveway and parking off our dead end road. From the car to the rental, you will walk a short path alongside my house to your front door. Once inside, you cannot see us and we cannot see you. The back porch is also situated to where cannot see each other. All windows in the house face away from us and it is well insulated for sound.
The house is very private.
We are conveniently and centrally located just north of Asheville, a few short miles to downtown and just two minutes off the highway. Our neighborhood is a sweet and quaint urban neighborhood where people wave and smile. We have a kids playground park walking distance to the house, and there are usually lots of people walking their dogs out on the street. So, please use caution while driving in the neighborhood. :)
When you come inside, you will enter the big main room with the couch and TV, and then the 'other side' where you will find the table for eating or working, and the pull out futon. The double-glass door goes out to the back deck overlooking the back yard and the large view of the sky. Make sure to look for the light bug display in June! It is beautiful and amazing!
You are absolutely welcome (and encouraged) to enjoy the backyard while you are here. We have some fun play equipment in the back, including a trampoline, a swing, and the pool.
Although the pool isn't a five star pool, it is still wet and cool on hot muggy days. We call it an adult baby pool, but really it is just an above ground pool that tops out at 4ft. There is a slight tilt to it, so we have a 'deep end' and a 'shallow end'. Ha! Sometimes you just have to laugh at it all. It's okay. We don't mind, so long as you don't! It serves it's purpose to cool down when it's so hot out.
The pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
There is only one step in the house going from the living room to the bed, bath and kitchen area.
So please, watch your step.
Our full kitchen is stocked with whatever you may need to cook meals or reheat leftovers. You will find all of the essentials here.
We do keep coffee for guests, but that's about all for consumption besides a few condiments that have found a home in the fridge. There are a number of grocery stores close by to choose from.
In the bathroom, you will be happy to find the whirlpool tub, which I highly recommend using during your stay.
The private bedroom boasts one of the comfiest queen sized beds ever. If you've never slept on a latex mattress before, then you're in for a treat.
The bedroom window looks west, out to a private sea of green and sky and just feels private and serene.
The full sized futon in the living room, with a privacy curtain to close off the area serves as second sleeping accommodations. The futon is probably best for kids or just one adult.
We designed the Blue Door to be perfect for a getaway.
Besides the house itself and all of it's comfort, you will find the location to be as convenient as can be. The house is very convenient to the highway and is central to all things Asheville.
We are also only a few minutes to downtown and all it has to offer. Only one exit from UNCA. My favorite community supported yoga center is right down the road. We are close to Beaver Lake and many parks along the French Broad river.
Although a lot has changed since Helene, Asheville is strong and coming back stronger! As we rebuild, I and our community thank you for your support and your visit to the area!
If you are bringing your dog we ask that you commit to following these requests made here:
Please make sure your dog is treated for fleas and ticks. We do not have fleas here and do not want to invite any problems with that.
Please do not leave destructive dogs unattended. We would ask you to pay for significant damages.
Please note that the back yard is not fenced in. Please keep you dog on a leash when outside for everyone's safety.
We love all dogs and welcome them same as we welcome people. We hope to always be able to allow dogs. Because, who wants to go anywhere without their dog?
We are a down-to-Earth family looking to provide a cozy and safe place for guests to retreat. We hope you find The Blue Door to be exactly what you need for your visit.
If you have any questions before you book, you are absolutely welcome to reach out to me.

The door will be unlocked and your key will be waiting for you on the table.
*For your safety please note that once inside, there is one step from the living room to the bed, bath and kitchen area.
Quests are welcome to enjoy everything on the property, assuming your own responsibility. The nice sized backyard that we share is plenty big enough to toss a ball or frisbee or to just meander around. We have a fire pit and lots of wood that guests are welcome to use, as well as a swing and trampoline and a pool. The pool is slated to be open between Memorial day to Labor Day.
**Use of the backyard amenities implies your personal responsibility. We are not held liable for any injury.
Guests will have one parking space allocated for them. If there will be more than one car, it is no biggie. We can always work out spacing. There is plenty of room so long as everyone parks right. Just let us know your needs.
If you drive an EV, we do have a plug on the front of the house you may use to top off your car until you can get to a regular charging station. (There are plenty of high speed charging stations close by)
We ask if you use the charger for vehicle fuel, that you please leave an 'honesty payment' of what you think you may have used during charging.
Please message me if you have any questions.
Thank you!
Other things to note
If you are an electric vehicle driver and need to recharge your car while visiting, we do have a plug that you can trickle charge from to top off until you can get to a regular charging station. (there are many high speed stations in close proximity).
We ask guests to please leave an 'honesty payment' of what you think was used to cover the cost of electricity for fuel for their vehicles.
If you have any questions about the house, please reach out to me. I am happy to answer any questions you may have to help ensure you book a place that is right for you.
