Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel

We stayed for two nights and, unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to what we expected for *** for two nights. First, the positives. The concierge staff on arrival were absolutely fantastic! Warm, welcoming, kind and incredibly helpful, especially on such a cold and windy day. They gave us a lovely first impression. The room itself is undeniably beautiful. The design is stylish, modern and aesthetically pleasing, and the bath in particular looked gorgeous. However, for us, the functionality of the room and the overall experience didn’t match the price point. We had booked an ocean-view room, but the view was quite disappointing. From the bed, the majority of what you see is surrounding apartment buildings, with only a relatively small glimpse of the ocean. The photos on the booking site gave us the impression of a much more impressive ocean view. The design of the room also looks fantastic in photographs, but some of the features aren’t particularly practical. The half-height walls around the bath and room obstruct the view of the TV from both the bath and the bed. We actually had to move the mattress towards the window to be able to comfortably see the TV from bed. The curved seating area looks very cool but wasn’t particularly comfortable for sitting and watching TV. As I was running the full Sunshine Coast Marathon on Sunday, I had specifically booked the weekend intending to rest and recover in the room before and after the race. When we checked in, we asked whether we could pay for a late checkout on Sunday, but were told that management were refusing all late checkouts because of the marathon. I understand the hotel may have operational reasons for this, but it was disappointing given the circumstances and the amount we had paid for the room. The bath was another missed opportunity. It looked incredibly inviting, so we expected there might be bath salts or bubble bath available. There weren’t any. When we called reception, we were told we could unscrew the shower gel and use that in the bath instead. At this price point, I would have expected proper bath amenities. There was also no complimentary bottled water in the room, water was an additional charge. Parking was another issue. We were charged $30 per night, but this wasn’t explained to us when we checked in. We were asked whether we’d parked in the car park, and we said yes, but nobody mentioned the cost or explained that we needed to arrange/book guest parking. We only realised the charge when we were leaving the hotel. We had also booked a table for two at the rooftop bar, Sully’s, on Friday evening. The rooftop is beautiful, but unfortunately it was extremely windy and cold, with most people sitting in their coats. It was also very busy, and we ultimately decided not to stay for a drink. Overall, this is a hotel that looks beautiful and photographs extremely well, but at *** for two nights, we expected a much more polished and comfortable experience. The room has the aesthetics of a luxury stay, but some of the practical details and communication didn’t feel like a luxury experience. Clearer information about parking and additional charges, complimentary water, proper bath amenities and a more functional room layout would have made a big difference. The concierge team were excellent, and the hotel is beautiful, but unfortunately we didn’t feel the overall experience justified the price we paid.

Too exy for what it is - ocean suite views at level 5 are interrupted with taller beachfront buildings. Noisy at night. Social media/ Agoda photos overhyped this hotel. Small pool/ pool area & gets crowded so get there at sunrise for 2 hrs as it was magic & the most peaceful. Hotel guests should not be allowed other people that aren't staying at the hotel in the pool. Sully's Rooftop is their saving grace- food is great with very attentive and lovely staff. Gym facilities too small/ limited equipment. Parking should be included for what they charge.
