Périgourdine house, Périgord noir, private pool, 10 min Lascaux 20 min Sarlat

Photos on the website are very professional…. Reality was a bit disapointing. Overall okay but not superb.

Two families of four and a dog had a fantastic holiday staying at this lovely farmhouse. The pool area was great and used all the time. The house was very spacious with plenty of room. A lovely quiet location within easy driving reach of many interesting attractions. I would recommend this house to others. The owner was very easy to deal with. My only tip for improvement would be updating the bathrooms or adding another.

The house is located at the end of a country lane in a hamlet of perhaps 10 houses that looks to have evolved from a few original farm buildings (this being one of them). All have good privacy from each other though. The barn is very large and well equipped; the bedroom and bathroom arrangements are unusual but offer flexible accommodation for two families (though one doorway to an upstairs double & twin bedroom is perhaps only 4' high - but this is half the fun!). Its simple but full of character inside - this isn't one of your over-gentrified properties but keeps its stone wall and inglenook fireplace interior. There are an incredible number of dining options with two indoor and 3 outdoor tables capable of seating 8. The pool is huge but not heated - so it's thankfully refreshing (not cold) on a hot day. The location is very, very peaceful but you are only 5 minutes from St Amand de Coly which has a bar/restaurant overlooking the old abbey. It is a 30 minute drive to Sarlat-la-Canada which is a lovely medieval town and just beyond you have the Dordogne river itself with kayaking trips past cliff edge towns and castles. The house is also well sited for visiting prehistoric cave paintings, foie gras farms, chateaus and even the quaint zoo east of Sarlat where you can walk among birds and lemurs. Though the house has an unusual layout which may not suit some I personally think it's very good value for money for the character of the building, its quiet location in scenic rolling, tree-covered hills and the easy of access to the major Dordogne attractions.
