Eco Cabins Hideaway Ella

Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été accueillis avec une gentillesse et une bienveillance incroyables. Nalin et Gayani ont été aux petits soins tout au long de notre séjour, toujours attentionnés, souriants et soucieux de notre bien-être. La cabine est tout simplement magnifique, nichée en pleine nature, dans un cadre paisible et dépaysant. Chaque petit détail témoigne de tout l’amour et du cœur que nos hôtes ont mis dans ce lieu pour offrir à leurs visiteurs un véritable cocon de douceur et de confort. Nous nous sommes sentis comme à la maison, entourés de beaucoup de douceur et d’attentions. Un immense merci à vous deux pour tout ce que vous nous avez apporté. Si vous passez par Ella, ne cherchez pas plus loin ! C’est une adresse que nous recommandons les yeux fermés.

This was our favourite stay in our entire 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. It's even better than the photos which are accurate but honestly don't quite do the place justice in all its glory (a rarity in Sri Lanka where AI editing has run rampant across so many booking.com listings). It's even more impressive when you learn that the husband is a carpenter and built the whole thing himself! The setup is kind of like a homestay except you have your own private, beautiful treehouse cabin crafted from natural wood and stone. The food is excellent, the AC works well, and the bed is big and comfortable (I think the mattress was on the firmer side if that is relevant to anyone). We really enjoyed just sitting on the balcony and watching all the monkeys and birds going about their business. It has the coolest bathroom I've ever seen in my life, and I further enjoyed watching the monkeys and birds through the window going about their business while I was in there doing mine. Book it, you won't be disappointed. The place is owned and run by a truly lovely young couple who have created something real with care and attention to detail. They described it as "their first cabin," and although it was the only one at time of writing I fully believe that any future cabins will be just as amazing and they deserve all the success with their business.

However I will include some clarifying points that might be useful to some people: - It is in a very secluded location, approx. 5km out of town, and another 5-10mins by tuk tuk from the main road itself on what is basically a private, mostly unpaved track. The hosts generously offer free tuk tuk rides to and from the main road. This seclusion was perfect for us, but if you're more interested in being closer to the bustle of the very tourist-ified town then it might not be for you, even though you'd be wrong and should stay here anyway. - Overall, we had no major difficulties with transport, but it should be noted that PickMe rides from the main road into town can sometimes be hard to get when there aren't any drivers in the immediate vicinity. The hosts will take you for a fee of 1500 LKR as of Sep 2026 (not $10-15 as I saw claimed in another review, unless they meant Fijian dollars or something). This is completely in line with the prices that other tuk tuks in town will charge (you can sometimes haggle a bit cheaper or get a better rate on PickMe, but honestly if you're coming from a western country with a good exchange rate it's not that expensive and you should just pay it because it accounts for the fact that the driver almost certainly won't get a fare back in the other direction). If you time it right there is also a local bus that stops right where you are dropped on the main road, which is an experience and also very cheap. - You are surrounded by jungle, so there are going to be insects, lizards, and other wildlife. The mosquito nets on the bed are in good condition and we didn't really have any problems, you just need to make sure you have insect repellent if you're going to be sitting outside. - Make sure you have enough cash with you to pay your entire bill (including the cost of the room) at the end of your stay.

We had a truly wonderful stay at the Eco Cabins Hideaway. The cabin is such a beautiful and unique place to stay, it is clear how much love has been poured into making it a really special place. The hosts went over and above to decorate the cabin for our honeymoon and were very friendly and hospitable throughout our stay. The cabin is located just outside of Ella, so very tranquil and relaxing but still only a 15 minute tuk tuk to town! The hosts also offer tuk tuk rides with very little notice and are much cheaper than the tuk tuk drivers in town. They also keep the fridge well stocked with refreshments and are able to offer dinner if you fancy a nice evening on the balcony instead of heading into town. The food they cooked us was excellent! It was a 10/10 stay and we cannot recommend it enough!
