Cute and cosy cottage in the lovely Oxton village

What a gem of a place. High level renovation and parking at the rear. Space is tight in the car park so for larger cars it might mean street parking which seemed plentiful when we stayed . Very well equipped kitchen, soft furnishings to a high level, milk in fridge and extra toiletries which were all very much appreciated. Great communication from the owners. It’s an old cottage so you do have to accept less power sockets and low ceelings which add to the character of the building. We managed just fine. Owners have added so many extra personal touches and tried to anticipate your every need. A lovely village, extremely friendly locals, loads of pubs and places to eat within walking distance and the Mayflower Chinese was delicious..Would definitely stay again.

The addition of a coffee pod machine and some new mattresses would make this 5 star property 6 stars.

Location was ok - very convenient but a little busy and noisy on a Saturday night. Sunday was fine. Oxton village is lovely. Cottage is lovely - very comfortable. I have to say it has the BEST couch we have EVER had in any holiday cottage or self catering place we have been to and we have been to a lot. over the years - most are cheap and very uncomfortable - not this one. Not skimped on the fixtures and furnishings which is excellent. The other lounge with two easy chairs and lights and radio is also excellent and perfect for quiet reading etc. I just loved it there and didn't want to leave. Kitchen is well equipped. Lovely little table to eat at. Very large bathroom had plenty of luxurious large bath towels again unusual in a holiday place. Really nice to have a separate shower - which was excellent plus a bath and room to move around - lovely. The artwork around the cottage was exceptional - really beautiful and lovely to have so much left in the cottage for us to enjoy. All in all a beautiful cottage to stay at. Very helpful owners who reply very quickly with any queries.

Main bed was comfortable but not the best - a bit springy in places like it might have seen better days. There are steep stairs which were not so suitable for us and I didn't think about before booking. Only one toilet upstairs which is understandable in an old cottage but not ideal for us or for those not so mobile. The only other thing that could be improved upon was the message coming from the cottage for the arrival key safe - instead of coming from Booking.com or whoever you booked under - it says cute & cosy cottage in ....... which unless you know exactly what it is called when you booked it you wouldn't be looking for that email. So I couldn't find the checking in details. Also there was no list of rules or do's and don'ts for the cottage - it should be printed out and left accessible which I believe the owners will be providing going forward. Ceiling or doorway going into main bedroom is very low but again to be expected in an old cottage - they do have soft edges on that plinth and on the stairs for those that are taller.

I really appreciated having those little extras on hand like coffee, sugar, S&P etc. Plus there was a small carton of milk in the fridge along with a large bottle of water. Parking was easy and straightforward with clear directions from the owners.

The only thing I didn't like was the low door frame to the main bedroom which I hit my head a couple of times when I awoke in the night to go to the toilet. It's just not something one remembers in the dead of night still half asleep. There was a bit of rubbish scattered throughout the property but nothing serious, just a bit of a let down upon our arrival.
