An absolutely stunning traditional Ryokan in a peaceful area an hour north of Kumamoto. We really wanted to find somewhere that wasn’t full of tourists and gave a more genuine Ryokan stay, with the tatami futon beds and in-room floor dining. This is a real public bathhouse with beautiful indoor and outdoor onsens for day visits (although both were completely empty so we had the to ourselves), but also has private rooms to stay at with a range of tiers and dining options. On arrival we received a gift of boiled eggs and a sweet, then settled in to the onsens - as well as a beautiful flowing hot onsen in our private bathroom. We had the half board with the unagi meal with hot sake - beautifully presented by a lovely Japanese lady who made us feel very welcome. The meal included sashimi, pickles, miso soup and watermelon. The breakfast was also beautiful, including a clay pot that you set alight to cook a salmon fillet. We left feeling healthy, relaxed, and inspired by a very genuine and traditional experience.

Absolutely nothing!

お湯の質がとても良かった。トロトロで温度もちょうど良くて、何度も入りました。 食事が部屋食で、味、量共にちょうど良かった。 桜が満開で、ロケーションが最高でした。

露天風呂の温度が少し低かった。 枕の硬さとフンワリ感が良くなかった。

自然に囲まれた所に有良かった
