THE AREA Fonteno, located at about 620 metres above sea level, is the highest village on what is known to the inhabitants of Lake Iseo as the Collina: a place made famous by the spectacular view of the lake and the 365 farmsteads scattered around, which become destinations for walks along well-trodden paths and mule tracks. Obviously, in addition to enjoying the attractions offered by the lake, which is only a little more than a ten-minute drive away, a considerable range of possible activities opens up here, among which hiking and cycling or mountain biking are in first place. Several 16th-century churches can be admired in the area. For speleologists, Fonteno is also known for the karstic cavity known as Abisso Bueno Fonteno, which descends 500 metres and stretches no less than 19 km and is among the top 20 caves in Italy in terms of extension.
