King Street Retreat

Fantastic location in the centre of the city in a heritage warehouse that has been cleverly converted. The apartment is very spacious. Despite its central location, it was not particularly noisy. Internal noise was practically non-existent, with just a little street noise that would no doubt have been reduced if we closed the windows. Having two bathrooms was excellent. There was a spa in the ensuite if that is your thing. There was ample seating in the lounge and at the dining table. The TV was enormous!

When we booked, we were asked when we were planning on checking in. I selected the 1500-1600 option. This was more than two months in advance. I received a message at 2:47pm asking when we were going to check in. By then, my friend and I were almost there. You can't actually collect the keys from the drop location as it is secure; they have to meet you there. This was not communicated beforehand so we got there before they had finished cleaning. It was fine, but could have been avoided with a tiny little bit of forethought and some communication. There were no sheets on the beds, just a thick doona/duvet. There were sheets in the washing machine so perhaps this is just because of the rush to get the place ready. The apartment is stuffy, even though it was quite cold (by Perth standards) when we were there. There is an air-conditioner but it seemed wasteful to use it when it was cold outside We eventually had to put it on, largely because of the lack of appropriate bedding.

The property was lovely, spacious and comfortable. Good working aircon, beautiful building. Felt really luxurious. Main bathroom was huge!

Our only entry instructions were 'Keys in the letterbox flat 22'. But we were unable to access the letterbox as it was behind a locked grill. We only managed to get in because another tenant was coming out. No-one responded to my requests for support or information until Monday. When I did hear back from them, they apologised and promised to improve this. No one told us what floor the flat was on either - which led to a bit of hit and miss in the elevator!

The location was excellent and close to transport, shops and food options, security was good (sort of) and although we thought the building interior was quite unusual we found it very interesting. The caretaker, Jas did his best and was very apologetic about not having a spare key after we locked ourselves out.

The lack of basic tea and coffee items, the power point hanging from the wall and the poor condition of the kitchen floor with the timber lifting in places let the place down. We were issued with a keypad for access to the apartment building but no key for our apartment and locked ourselves out when we went for dinner.
