About this house rental

Summary:

Elk Mid-Century - Guest House

The Space:

Wake up to the sights and sounds of ocean waves at this Elk home, a breathtaking oceanfront retreat with beautiful mid-century style, a gorgeous deck that overlooks the water, and stunning sunset views of Greenwood Cove and the surrounding cliffs.

This home is half of a duplex that sits atop the bluffs in Elk, an oceanfront community on a particularly beautiful stretch of Highway 1. Stop for breakfast at Queenie's Roadhouse Cafe on your way to Greenwood State Beach each morning, take scenic drives to Mendocino (16 miles north) and Point Arena (19 miles south), and end each evening with a sunset cocktail on your ocean-facing deck.

Whether you choose to spend your days reading by the fireplace (wood is provided), sharing photos on the free WiFi, or dining outside on the deck, you'll feel right at home in this elegant space. Prepare breakfast in the mod-style kitchen, soak in a few rays of sun in a lounge chair on the deck, and choose a Netflix favorite to watch with your loved ones each night. Please note that the adjacent, two-bedroom main house is available for rent as well (the two homes are connected via the garages), and that both units can be rented together as the four-bedroom Mid-Century Elk.

You'll never forget the time you spend in Elk - book today!

You can not beat the view! Just gorgeous! The property itself is dated and worn. Beds and furniture need to be replaced. The bed was sinking in and was not very comfortable. It was clean and had everything we needed to cook and eat with. The location provides privacy but is also a short drive into Mendocino.

This property is a very cool architectural midcentury duplex. We loved the space! It is a little “worn” because it all seems to be original(like kitchen cabinetry) but it’s a very peaceful enjoyable space.. Loved it!

Looks like nothing from the street then -- WOW. This place is incredible. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright with floor to ceiling windows that overlook one of the most incredible views of the Pacific Ocean you will ever see. Otherworldly. The only downside is that Vacasa/VRBO forgot to email us about the house's broken furnace so we had to have a fire going and keep 4 space heaters going full-time to survive the below 40 degree temps outside. I very much appreciate that the rental company refunded much of our rental fee to accommodate but do wish they hadn't rent out a place with no heat during wintertime.

Great find! It's situated right on the coastline in a little inlet with a great view of the rocky coast. The mid-century wooden architecture is well thought out and gives the place a unique feel. Comes with everything you would need. Nearby Greenwood State Beach was also a highlight.

My only complaint about the house is that is it very close to the highway, so you get a lot of road noise. The deck is spectacular and we spent most of our time out there. You can tell its an old house- the light switches are randomly placed and the kitchen is pretty dark, but as a beach escape for a few days, it was perfect. Most of the stores and restaurants in Elk were closed due to COVID, etc, so the only bummer was having to drive to Mendocino if we wanted food. Would definitely stay here again!!

Amazing views, lovely old house, eccentric lighting! Good selection of pans for cooking but few utensils and no chopping board. House has no internet or cable so bring IT kit and download music and movies if you want to watch TV or listen to music. A 30 min drive to grocery store in Mendocino so bring supplies with you.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. The view of the ocean was excellent, and Elk is a great little town. Its too bad the house's electrical systems and lighting aren't in good condition though, with many switches failed and inadequate lighting throughout the house, particularly in the kitchen. The kitchen supplies were also inadequate (no pots or pans?). Too bad some privacy structure wasn't built to separate the deck from that of the other house that is attached.
