Location great, clean and fresh

Communal corridors

Great location - we used the apartment as a base when moving our son into his new uni digs nearby. Despite the apartment block being on a busy junction we heard very little road noise. Loads of great local pubs & eateries & it's only a 15 minute walk to the city centre. Also it's right next door to our favourite little Itchy Pig taproom which is an added bonus!! The apartment was kitted out with everything we needed - pots, cutlery, kettle Toaster etc although there was only enough cutlery for 2 - we had to keep washing up the teaspoons.

Bed was very low (almost futon style) and was a small double so not the most comfortable for 2 fairly inflexible adults - I think it would be possible to fit a standard size/height double in the space without causing any issues. Absence of a dishcloth in the kitchen to dry things up with - luckily we borrowed one from our son Fixtures & fittings a little basic - there was a hanging rack for clothes but no shelves or drawers. No loo roll holder in the bathroom - it wouldn't take much to just fit one rather than toilet paper rolls sitting on the cistern behind you, but these are minor niggles as the apartment was still good value.

We did not get the room we asked for, which we were careful to choose from the pictures given for that particular apartment. We contacted the owners but no explanation was given. The bed was so uncomfortable and one side was against a wall. The mattress was far too soft and not fit for two people. We are of small build.As an older couple with some health issues this was not at all suitable. The room was not properly cleaned and several utensils had caked on food on them. We had to clean everything before use. There was no hot water from the kitchen and bathroom taps and noise from what we thought might have been the boiler. You could hear noise from the other guests which was very loud until 3.00am on one night. The door to the apartment was not very secure either and the light from the hall was was visible from the gap at the side all night. It rained one night and it was impossible to sleep as there must have been a problem with the guttering as the water was crashing down on a ledge. We travel and stay in apartments like this several weeks in a year as we work away. This was more expensive than any we have recently stayed in, which is why we were surprised at such poor standards. We would rarely leave a poor review such as this but think that these issues need to be dealt with or reflected in the price.
