The cabin sits on 5.5 acres within an undisturbed 40 million year old cactus covered volcanic area that has been deemed an ancient Vision Quest site by a renowned state archeologist. Paleolithic and modern tribes utilized the area for hunting, stone sourcing and spiritually Shamanic purposes. The cabin directly faces Sun Mountain (Pikes Peak) 25 miles to the East, the most sacred mountain of the Ute Tribe and sits along Highway 9, a primitive road used by native peoples for tens of thousands of years. This is an area explored by the Spanish in the 1700's, in which the local towns Canon City, Salida and Buena Vista have reflective names. The cabin sits between two area deemed Dark Skies. Browns Canyon and Florissant Fossil Beds. For stargazers, witness the dark sky, meteor events and beaming Milky Way, as nature intended.
The cabin is located under two hours drive from Denver and one hour from Colorado Springs. The famous gold medal trout fishing Dream Stream on the South Platte River is only 6 miles away with 3 major reservoirs Spinney, Eleven Mile and Antero in town for boating and fishing activities. The Cabin sits on the edge of the Pike National Forest, which offers exceptional hunting opportunities.
Mt. Princeton, Cottonwood and Charlotte Hot springs is located in the town of Buena Vista only 40 mins away. World class mountain biking in Salida is 50 mins away, with the famous Monarch Ski Mountain close by. The Royal Gorge in Canon City is 45 mins down the road with another hot springs in Penrose nearby. The Arkansas river running through these towns offers world class white water rafting and water sports. Motorsports, mineral hunting and observing wildlife are popular activities within the area.
World class skiing in Breckenridge is just over the hill 50 mins away, with the South Park inspired town of FairPlay only 25 mins down Hwy 9.
The famous Paradise Cove swimming rock formation is located in Guffey, where you can take a dip within an ancient waterfall and dramatic natural scenery.
The Florissant Fossil Beds are a town over, with the Great Sand Dunes National Park only 2 hours away.
Please understand that you’ll be within public lands without fences where Buffalo roam free. It is important to not approach the animals and to keep children and pets close by, as Buffalo will be defensive and aggressive when challenged or approached. If you see Buffalo present then you should quickly make your way close to the cabin and ideally on to the deck. Buffalo are not passive or friendly. Guests are responsible for their actions and should be cautious if Buffalo are present. Please do not approach the animals for pictures, observation or to pet, as Buffalo will charge and attack. The risk of serious injury or death is real and should be respected, as guests are solely responsible for their actions. The Buffalo are not property of the cabin’s owner and the owner of Buffalo Cabin is not responsible for the actions or damage caused by the Buffalo. Please respect that they are beautiful animals but represent a level of danger where humans and pets can and will be seriously injured, if provoked.
