Sciuti Urban Stay - Centro Storico di Catania

Location 10 minute walk to S Agata. 15 minutes drive to airport. Large, clean, elevator. Packaged baked goods and water, aranciata. 1 and 1/2 bath, 2 separate bedrooms. Modern.

Very loud music til about 1 am in the bars and piazza below. Could not sleep. If you want to get to bed early don’t stay here. We asked for a driver to pick us up at airport. The name was Marco- a long time friend of Roberto who runs the B&B. Pick up was fine. Marco never showed up or answered our calls the morning at the time we arranged to take us to the airport. He didn’t answer any of our calls or texts. Roberto did answer and called a taxi to pick us up. Also, we left a cell phone in the apartment and had already left the keys inside. Roberto got the phone and took a scooter to our taxi. That was nice but very stressful because of the ride issue.

Positive Spacious, clean, and very welcoming hosts The apartment itself is lovely, very spacious, clean, and well-maintained. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The hosts were incredibly sweet and helpful; they had even bought water for us in advance, just as we had agreed on.

Negative Extremely noisy – expect very little sleep We slept an average of only 4 hours each night due to the extreme noise levels. There are three bars/restaurants located directly beneath the apartment, and a park right outside. While some noise from the bars is to be expected, large groups of young people use the park as a hangout spot, playing music through huge portable speakers until 3:00 AM. Then, at 5:00 AM, the street cleaning and bottle collection trucks start up, along with other machines that made a very loud noise we never quite identified. This happened every single night. The hosts did leave earplugs on all the nightstands, which we appreciated. However, the listing claims the apartment has soundproof windows. This is definitely not the case—there seems to be a gap or opening where the air conditioning unit connects to the outside/park, which lets all the noise straight in. We are usually not sensitive to noise, but if you stay here, you must be prepared to sleep with earplugs or have a very high tolerance for loud music, shouting, and heavy machinery.
