KalaKoala Hostel

The best hostel to stay in Malang, it offers private and shared rooms, we were staying in a private room, everything was super clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and really helpful, special thanks to Khai. The common areas are also welcoming to relax and talk to other travelers. I could not recommend more this hostel.

KalaKoala is the best place you could stay in Malang, the people working there were always so helpful and nice, thank you Khai, Jasa, Eca and Keshia. The place is incredibly clean, there are all the amenities you could need and they provide tours to the recomended places around. The space is calm and welcoming, there are common areas to hang out and talk to others or just chill and relax. I had such an amazing experience there.

it was perfect! the room was clean and modern, overall the whole hostel was so nice, 2 kitchens, 2 outside terraces and shared space, ideal if you want to work on notebook or talk to others. location was close to main street and also not far away from center. the receptionists were always very helpful and so nice, gave us recommendations where to go and what to do.

Auch nach 3 Jahren Weltreise gibt es anscheinend noch Überraschungen. Unser Zimmer „Superior Suite mit Kingsize Bett“ war direkt neben der Rezeption, es gab keine Fenster, nur eine riesige unisolierte Glasscheibe zur Rezeption hin, so dass man jedes Gespräch gehört hat, auch mitten in der Nacht. Das Bad war weder zum Gang noch zum Zimmer hin abgedichtet, so dass auch hier Licht ins Zimmer kam. Auf der Decke war ein Schimmelfleck, der aufs Bett getropft hat und das Bett war so instabil, dass es in der ersten Nacht fast auseinander gefallen ist, sowas haben wir noch nie erlebt. Das wurde dann zumindest am nächsten Tag gefixt nachdem wir etwas gesagt hatten. Vielleicht sind die Zimmer in den oberen Stockwerken angenehmer.

Die Kommunikation mit dem Personal war ebenfalls schwierig, auch wenn alle sehr freundlich waren. Wir hatten extra im Vorfeld eine Dinge gefragt, die vor Ort dann alle anders waren, z.B. ob man mit Karte zahlen kann, dass darauf eine Gebühr kommt wurde uns aber nicht mitgeteilt. Die Organisation der Touren fanden wir auch recht schwierig, wofür das Hostel nur bedingt etwas kann, aber man sollte sich darauf gefasst machen, dass alles länger dauert als nötig, im Nachhinein hätten wir die Ausflüge lieber anders organisiert. Der Shared Shuttle zum Flughafen in Surabaya hätte 5h(!) gedauert mit Leute abholen, umsteigen etc. und der Preis für einen privaten Fahrer war horrend hoch, so dass wir letztendlich ohne Probleme mit einem Gojek gefahren sind für den gleichen Preis, den das Shuttle gekostet hätte.
