Protels La Plage Resort

The location was like something out of a movie set, beautiful setting, palm trees, beach views, beautiful, crystal clear pools and well maintained bar and restaurant areas. The breakfast and dinner were exceptional with a great amount of options, my kids enjoyed that they could have cereal, eggs and fruit if they pleased. Fresh juices were always on point and the curry options were my favourite in the evenings. The barman gave me the number of a TukTuk driver who made getting supplies an snacks in nearby Paje easy, safe and affordable. The highlight of our stay was on my daughter's birthday, the staff arranged a cake, and presented it to her at dinner while singing happy birthday and the special Zanzibar song, very very special. This is service. Brilliant.

Out of the entire vacation there were only two low points, one was how pricy the drinks were. For half board, we had to purchase drinks which were slightly overpriced but next time we will book all inclusive to side step that. Then, on our final day we had a 2am check out and there were no staff at reception to assist despite it being a 24 hours reception shift. Luckily Mr Kilani the assistant manager was so kind to send me links to settle my drinks bill while we were en route to the airport so we were at the airport on time and the matter was handled swiftly and kindly. He did a phenomenal job ensuring my kids and I were comfortable and well looked after throughout our stay.

The breakfast was amazing, and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Leila went above and beyond to assist me when my card was not working, and management was also supportive and helpful throughout my stay.

There was a misunderstanding between management and myself regarding a payment, which caused some inconvenience during the stay. However, the matter was discussed and resolved satisfactorily.

I really loved the beautiful property, the cleanliness, and the overall atmosphere. Everything felt well-maintained, relaxing, and welcoming. The staff were also incredibly friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better.

Honestly, there wasn’t much I didn’t like about the property. Everything was beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. Overall, I had a great experience and really enjoyed my stay.

You can’t argue with the price, it is very reasonable! The spa/massages are the highlight no doubt. The staff are a real asset - very friendly and helpful. Drinks are good, with cocktails included which we appreciated!

The hotel is very tired, it shows most in the bathrooms. The buffet is very repetitive if you’re there for several days. The high energy music around the pool from 10:20AM is too much, detracts from the tranquility (but that’s a personal preference I understand, some people will like this). The beach is stunning but as they are public land in Zanzibar you do get hassled a lot - however the hotel security did a good job of making sure it didn’t happen on hotel property.
