Today’s Juliusruh-Breege on the island of Rügen combines idyllic nature with maritime history. Once a small fishing village on the north coast, situated between the Schaabe and the Breeger Bodden, the people here made their living primarily from fishing and seafaring. In the 18th century, Breege was even one of the wealthiest towns on the island. The lovingly preserved, thatched-roof captains’ houses at the harbor still bear witness to this today. Juliusruh emerged somewhat later, when Julius von der Lancken had a manor house built at the end of the 18th century, thereby laying the foundation for the seaside resort.
Today, Juliusruh-Breege is a popular vacation destination that perfectly combines relaxation, nature, and activities. The kilometer-long, fine-sand beach is perfect for sunbathing, walking, or biking—with a magnificent view of the Baltic Sea and surrounded by fragrant pine forests. Boats depart from the Brege harbor for Hiddensee or to the famous Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek.
