About this apartment rental
You enter the apartment via the large staircase in the building manager’s house. Passing through an entryway with a coat closet and guest restroom, you reach the kitchen. Beyond that are the dining room and living area, featuring a wood-burning stove and access to the long east-facing balcony. All three main rooms open toward the east—offering views of the church, the courtyard, and the morning mist. The enfilade creates a sense of depth, light, and spaciousness. On the top floor, under the tower’s roof, there are two bedrooms—connected by an open hallway with a skylight-lit bathroom. The northern room is quiet, almost secluded—with a view of the church square. The southern room has a small balcony at the very top of the house: an unobstructed view of the commandery, fields, and sky. Heating (and cooling in the summer) is provided by ceiling and floor heating. Clay plaster, clay paint, wood fiber insulation—built to be breathable and eco-friendly, just like all the apartments in the Komturei.
If you’re in the mood for fresh local fruits and vegetables, you can order an organic box from Grünland in Salzwedel. Deliveries arrive on Fridays—and we’re happy to have them arrive before your arrival, if you’d like. Hidden in the cupboard under the stairs is a small neighborhood store with fine foods and beverages—such as apple juice from Mühlenberg, bread mix, honey, pasta, pesto, and more. And if you feel like browsing, you might find the perfect book for a quiet hour on the shared bookshelf.
The sauna in the old vaulted cellar of the caretaker’s house is open to all guests.
