The Red Lion Heytesbury

The family room was comfortable and quiet. Plenty of on site parking. Good food and drink. Friendly staff.

As we had older children the triple bunk bed was less than ideal, mattresses were too thin. This was resolved by one child sleeping on the sofa bed. Would have loved 100% cotton bedding too.

This was in a perfect location for us as we were hiking from Bath to Salisbury on a route that took us through Heytesbury. We had opted for the twin room, and it was a bonus to find that we had not just a shower but a bath (for soaking tired muscles!). Our evening meal was the sort of thing I might cook at home (lasagne, a very British take on chicken curry) and breakfast is full English plus variations. The lady who owns the pub is lovely, as were all the staff - and the equally friendly locals! Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very welcome.

The room itself (a twin) was on the small side and we both longed for an armchair to collapse in, but this was reflected in the good value of the room. I could glimpse other double rooms as some doors were open as I passed, and they looked more spacious. This is a straightforward Inn rather than a boutique hotel, and as long as you know that when you book, you can't go wrong with the Red Lion :-)

The staff were lovely and helpful. Food was great and the facilities were fantastic

Lighting in bathroom and lighting for reading at night time
