Shimosuwa is also famous for its Onbashira Festival, held every six years; the next one will take place from May 3 to 16, 2028. The main attraction is “Kiotoshi,” where about ten men ride a 20-metric-ton tree down a steep slope—it’s just a 5-minute drive away.
