First off, the location was excellent. I'd say that it was probably the best thing about the hotel. The room itself, for a solo traveller, was all I needed. The addition of the washing machine and small kitchenette was great too, not that you'd need to cook for yourself in Kyoto. Definitely a place to come back to.
The mattress had very little padding, in that the springs were quite present. But despite this, it was actually comfortable. Just don't expect a luxurious mattress.

The room had everything we needed. The real highlight was our neighbourhood. So beautiful.
