Welcome to Villa Montemar A Luxury Retreat in the Heart of Southern Costa Rica
Every room looks out to the Pacific. A heated infinity pool hangs over the jungle canopy. Toucans pass through at dusk, and ocean breezes cool the hillside year-round. Perched at 1,200 feet in the lush highlands of Platanillo, Villa Montemar is a brand-new two-story villa built in 2024 where the Pacific Ocean and the San Juan de Dios Mountains frame every view — deeply private, yet 25 minutes from the surf beaches of Dominical and close to everything Southern Costa Rica has to offer.
Fly into Quepos for a scenic 45-minute drive, or San José for a two-hour journey through the mountains.
The Villa
Villa Montemar was designed for guests who want luxury without pretense. The open first-floor plan centers on a custom chef's kitchen with propane gas cooking, a double-sided refrigerator, ice maker, espresso machine, and everything you need to cook or simply gather. The kitchen flows into a generous dining and living area — every room in the villa looks out to the Pacific — all oriented toward the ocean and the jungle canopy below.
Step outside to the heated infinity pool, outdoor shower, covered dining terrace, and Napoleon charcoal grill — all framed by panoramic views across two levels of outdoor living space.

My stay at Villa Montemar was nothing short of amazing. The entire house was spotless from top to bottom, but also extremely comfortable. The upstairs terrace was a great place to catch the sunset. As a digital nomad who is always traveling, this is my favorite place I’ve stayed at. The WiFi was very strong and reliable, and I enjoyed having a proper desk to work from. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped with state of the art cookware. I loved being able to look out to the ocean while cooking. The hosts and concierge also provided insight of what to do in the area, including hikes, yoga, and more. Lastly, what I loved the most was how open the house is. Being up in the mountains, there is constantly a fresh breeze and I was able to keep the windows open all the time and listen to the sounds of nature - from the bird calls to even the waves crashing late at night. Don’t hesitate to book this place - you won’t regret it!

This home is brand new and has gorgeous surroundings! The home was spacious and tastefully decorated. The kitchen overlooks the complete first floor with all amenities you’ll need. The host and concierge were super helpful with planning our stay and arranging groceries and local recommendations. The views are gorgeous. You can see the ocean waves crashing in the distance! The infinity pool is salt water which felt really nice. The balconies and terrace areas are comfortable & relaxing. We hiked the immediate areas and loved the nature. There’s a cool waterfall nearby. Highly recommended! Great internet service and best lasting memories made at Montemar!!

Our stay at this home was absolutely five-star from start to finish. The house was spotless, beautifully maintained, and felt incredibly comfortable the entire time. One of our favorite parts was waking up each morning to tropical birds right outside our room—it was an unforgettable experience that made the stay feel truly special.The infinity pool was stunning, offering breathtaking views and the perfect place to relax and unwind. We also felt very safe and secure throughout our stay, which made it easy to fully enjoy everything the property had to offer.The hosts were fantastic—quick to respond to any questions and genuinely helpful, making the entire experience smooth and stress-free. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Costa Rica.

Great property! We loved the views of the Pacific Ocean and heard the sounds too. Safe neighborhood with many nice things to do. Fantastic yoga center within walking distance and we had a massage by the pool when we got back to the house! What a treat!We did horseback riding in the valleys and meadows and waterfalls nearby. The beach is only 20 minutes away and the house gets a constant breeze being up in the hills….We did not even use the air conditioning. The property had everything you can wish for. The kitchen is fully decked out. Highly recommend!
