Raven Lane Retreat

The location was perfect. Just a block away from the market and 2 blocks to Ludlow Castle. The decor was fantastic and we recognized many pieces from the local market and town shops. Everything was super clean. The bedrooms had lots of storage. Everything seemed brand new! All the cutlery and dishes and glassware matched. (We didn't cook). The carpet was nice and plush which was great for climbing the stairs. Lots of lighting. We didn't use the washer/dryer. There was a nice sized freezer and we were able to make ice cubes. A notebook on how to use the appliances was provided, and another notebook with helpful tips and a bit of history. We did have to call because we couldn't figure out how to get hot water in the shower (keep fiddling with the left tap and let it run a bit). We didn't use the claw foot bath and the shower was quite nice and large. A roll of toilet paper was provided to tide us over until we could get more. Hand soap, dish soap and dishwasher soap was also available. A fan was in the uppermost bedroom to help cool it. Tea bags and sugar were also provided (delicious!)

Booking.com did not communicate well with the host (Dave) - I had clearly told Booking.com that I did not have phone service which was needed to call Dave to get the key from the lock box. Luckily, my sister purchased a cell phone plan and we were eventually able to communicate and enter the property. The place was charming but WAY TOO SCENTED. We prefer an unscented environment and had to move all the reed diffusers out of the way during our stay. Opening the windows did not really clear out the smell. The towels were also highly scented. The basement smelled a bit musty. It appeared that the toilet seat was not the correct size and kept slipping so I often partially sat on the rim. Never having used a skeleton key before, it was a bit of a learning curve to lock up. The keys weren't labelled so it took a while to figure out that one was for the outside and one was for locking up from the inside. We didn't use the "garden" as it was more of a seating arrangement in the alley near the bins and construction was going on next door.
