Merpati homestay

Kleine einfache Unterkunft, um den Alltag hinter sich zu lassen. Alles war sauber. Das Essen einfach aber lecker. Wir konnten mit dem Besitzer Feiki mit zum Angeln rausfahren, er hat uns Coconut Crabs gezeigt und war generell sehr freundlich.

Das Stromaggregat ist sehr laut und läuft die ganze Nacht, damit hatten wir nicht gerechnet. Als wir es bei Feiki angesprochen haben, kümmerte er sich sofort darum und sorgte dafür, dass die weiteren Nächte ruhiger waren. Leider gab es nicht jeden Tag Fisch.

My stay at Merpati was exactly as I’d hoped and more. Feki and his family were amazing host. They went out of their way with little extras, like taking us to find coconut crabs and showing us the best snorkel spots around the island. There was always plenty of tasty food, despite it being simple (like all homestays). We often had fresh fish, with Feki collecting it from fishermen on the water before putting it on the BBQ. For a homestay, the facilities were really good, with a comfy double bed, mosquito net, hammock and private bathroom with a shower. There was also a fan and electric outlets, working roughly from 5/6pm to 1/2am. The homestay doesn’t have WiFi, but the dive centre close by does, along with cold drinks, and it’s a lovely spot to watch the black tips. They get busy with diving, so I’d recommend arranging this in advance. The island itself was beautiful; photos can’t do it justice. There’s a large lagoon in front of the homestay and a fantastic house reef beyond. The reef was incredibly healthy, with loads of coral and plenty to see (sharks, turtles, rays, eels, etc.). The lagoon was also full of life, with plenty of fish and even small black tips visible from the balcony. We also took a snorkelling day trip with Feki, which I’d definitely recommend. The spots were great, and we stopped at his hometown for a quick tour. The price was per boat and very reasonable (around 2 million, if I remember correctly, for 3 snorkel spots and the village tour). The boat trip from Waisai took around two hours and was very scenic. There’s no cover on the boat, so you’re exposed to the sun and sea; I’d recommend waterproof clothing that covers you up. Feki also dropped me at my next homestay for a reasonable price. I can’t recommend Merpati Homestay enough. It was exactly what I was looking for in Raja Ampat. Thank you again, Feki and family!

The host is super friendly, happy to help all the time. The place is clean, confortable and is really lime a paradise! We chose it also becausr of the dive center on the other aide of the island, few min walk. There you can get a beer and watch a beautiful sunset

Be ready to shower the Indonesian way with a bucket of water and use it also to drain the toilet.
