Checkout is 10:00 am. I stayed 5 nights so I would have thought a late check out of one or two hours would be easily granted. It was not.
Having been granted late check out from other hosts in the past my reasoning was that many guests stay one or two nights, others three or four, so cleaners would obviously have to clean the accommodation much more often than the once-only cleaning after my five night stay, and therefore a late checkout would be easily accommodated. I have used Booking.com on 5 continents and have received a positive response to all ‘late check-out’ requests after a multi night stay.
However my request for a late checkout was met with an explanation that an extra cleaner would be required for which I should meet the cost.
I responded by noting check-in isn't until 4:00; that I had seen cleaners there every afternoon; and reiterated that I only wanted one or two hours.
To this, my second message, I received a repeat of the first response, that to ensure the place was ready for the next guest they would need an extra cleaner for which I should meet the cost.
They said it was their policy and that they needed to be fair to all guests. This is a nonsensical response. Fairness to all guests is to accommodate a reasonable request from one guest when it will not impact negatively on other guests (I reiterate that check-in time is 4:00pm and check out time 10:00 sharp.) It appeared they were hiding behind their ‘policy’ to justify being unreasonably inflexible. They certainly compare unfavorably to the large number of other accommodation providers I have used.
I further mentioned that I'd had a great stay so would have given a great review, but that in light of this decision I would mention their lack of flexibility in my review. They responded stating I was being retaliatory. I do not believe I am being retaliatory - I am simply posting this information for future guests.
