Santa Maria Villa

We had a fantastic stay at Santa Maria Villa for two weeks in June. The photos we saw on Booking.com showed the house as it is. The terraces are wonderful, with stunning views over the mountains, the sea, and the harbour (especially from the rooftop). The three bedrooms are super comfortable, each with plenty of storage space and a private bathroom. The kitchen is fabulous. So big and equipped with everything you need to feel at home. We often stayed in, cooked delicious meals and ate them on one of the terraces. As it was June, the Atlantic Festival had plenty of entertainment, including live music every night and fireworks over the bay every Saturday night. We had the perfect spot to watch them from our rooftop terrace. Just amazing! The villa is in a very good neighbourhood, where it is quiet and peaceful. The neighbourhood dogs are barking frequently, but not incessantly. We were not disturbed by them at all. To get into Funchal, we walked 25 minutes downhill and 30 minutes back uphill. We are all fit and healthy and therefore enjoyed the walks very much. We didn't have a hire car and used the Bolt app instead, which is highly recommended, especially for supermarket shopping at the Pingo Doce Super Anadia opposite the Mercado dos Lavradores or if you want to spend time at the Lido beach club in São Martinho (highly recommended). José is an amazing host who welcomed us to the villa with a traditional cake, biscuits, and a bottle of Madeira Wine. He also gave us a lift to Funchal and pointed out the supermarket and the old town. We felt at home at the villa and were sad to leave.

tout était parfait: situation, confort, propreté, espace intérieur et extérieur. Accueil parfait à notre arrivée avec 2 bouteilles de vin local offertes.

Nous avons apprécié l’espace ( très appréciable avec 6 adultes) le confort de la literie et toutes les petites attentions faites pour nous faciliter le séjour ( café, thé, et autres gourmandises, gel douche, …) la vue est également superbe, le quartier calme. La situation de la maison permet un accès facile et rapide à la vr1 tous les déplacements se font donc très facilement.

Tout était très bien. Il faut juste signaler que l’accès au centre ville de funchal peut se faire à pied mais cela reste sportif, il est préférable de se rapprocher en voiture, de même pour se rendre à la boulangerie ça se fait mais ça grimpe!

Our host Jose was very friendly and helpful. The Villa was in a great location and was very spacious. The views from the top floor balcony were spectacular
