PEKOE VALLEY Huluganga

I'd arrived with a leg injury from a motorcycle accident on the Knuckles Range a few hours before, and in much pain. Manager Anthony and Chef Sanga went to great lengths to ensure I was comfortable and well looked after. Sanga brought my meals to the room and made sure I was settled, whilst Anthony personally massaged my knee and ankle, applying oil and a pressure bandage. Anthony also arranged a visit for us to his boss's tea plantation, where we toured the 140-year-old manager's residence—a true highlight of the entire trip. This is a hidden gem in a beautiful part of Sri Lanka. The host was warm and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, and the view was absolutely breathtaking! There's not really any shops or restaurants around, but there is a kitchen on site and they provided a truly delicious curry dinner for a very good price. They even chopped up a little plate of mangoes for us when a ripe one fell off their mango tree. Make sure to check out the natural pool fed by a little waterfall which is about a 3-5min walk from the property. The little wooden swing bench was the perfect place to just sit and enjoy the beauty of nature in absolute peace. I would highly recommend staying here if you get the chance.

Not really anything we didn't like. There was no fridge in the room, but the host was happy for us to put stuff in the kitchen fridge. The driveway was quite steep and narrow, but our little hire car made it.

A perfect stay In paradise. Anthony was very kind, welcoming, generous and informative. The curry and rice was amazing. We came first one day and stayed 3. Different fresh vegetables every day , so about 20 in all. The room was spotless and of high standards , the pool was a great cool off after a hot hike. No air-con but as in the mountains a fan was enough. No wifi but good 4g. The town was very rural. We loved it , friendly people to chat to. Great local restaurants, which some might find grubby, but thats how they are. Easy to pock up a good vegetable roti for lunch. Even a beer shop. We hiked through the tea estate, great views at the top of 5 peaks. And tea pickers village where the children excitedly waved and tried there 1 english word. The hike up Gombaniya is a challanging drive to the start. We have a scooter and no off road experience. It is a road but not great. The hike is well walked and cut back. A guy offered to guide us but we like to do it alone.there are leeches in the wet so cover your ankles We would have stayed longer but need to explore more. We will come back i hope
