About this apartment rental
The history behind our walls : The Palazzo dei Miracoli (Monastery of Santa Maria dei Miracoli) is a striking Venetian-era convent originally founded in 1615 by Marussa Mengano for Dominican nuns atop Kastelli hill in Chania. It once included a church and enclosed courtyard with adjacent nun’s cells, typical of Western monastic architecture. Much of the complex was destroyed during the 1941 bombings, but today you can still see remnants of the southern and eastern church walls, parts of the cloister, and sections of the upper-floor cells. Its ruins are thoughtfully integrated into the historic old townscape, standing as a quiet link to Chania’s layered past.
