Aayu Chowrasta - 3 min walk to Penang Road Chendul

*1. Unclear and potentially misleading description of the property* The property is referred to using different descriptions such as “Hotel”and “Lodge”. However, based on the actual location and arrangement, it is more like an accommodation located within and above a hawker-stall and Market (Pasar) area. Guests should be made aware beforehand that the accommodation is situated in a busy market/hawker-street environment, rather than giving the impression of a conventional hotel / accommodation. *2. Car park location and safety concerns* The listing states that car parking is provided, but the car park is not located directly at the accommodation. It is located on the next road, and guests have to walk through the market along the next road and hawker area before reaching the accommodation. This raises a genuine safety concern, especially for female guests returning or arriving at night. Simply stating “car park provided” without clearly explaining that the parking is located on another road and requires guests to walk through the market area is misleading. The actual parking location and access route should have been clearly stated before booking. *3. Condition and surroundings of the accommodation* The room is located on an upper floor, while the level below appears to be unused. The overall condition and arrangement of the building do not give the impression of a properly maintained conventional accommodation. The accommodation appears to be integrated within a busy market environment, which should have been clearly disclosed to guests. *4. Locking and security concerns* The lock/locking mechanism does not function properly, which raises serious concerns regarding the security of the room. Regardless of whether the property is classified as a hotel or lodge , guests should be provided with a room that can be properly secured. The condition of the door and its locking mechanism, as shown in the attached photo, also appears old and poorly maintained. *5. Excessive noise until midnight* The room is located near an event hall on Level 3 at the next road, as well as above/near a mamak/hawker stall The surrounding noise was extremely disturbing and continued until approximately 12:00 midnight, making it difficult to properly rest or sleep. This is not simply normal city noise. The location of the room directly above/near these businesses results in significant noise late into the night. *6. Very early morning noise from the market and hawker stalls* The situation is even more problematic in the early morning. As the accommodation is located around a market and hawker-stall area, significant noise starts at approximately 4:00–5:00 a.m. when vendors begin setting up and operating. Therefore, guests are exposed to significant noise from as early as 4:00–5:00 a.m. until around midnight, making it extremely difficult to obtain proper and uninterrupted rest. *7. Hawker stall tables and chairs directly in front of the accommodation* Another major issue is that the tables and chairs for the hawker stall customers are placed directly in front of the accommodation entrance/access area. This means that guests have to pass through or around an area occupied by hawker-stall customers just to access the accommodation. It is highly inappropriate for an accommodation entrance and creates additional privacy, convenience and safety concerns, particularly when returning to the accommodation at night. The arrangement also makes it very unclear where the actual entrance/access to the accommodation is, and gives the impression that the accommodation is effectively situated within the hawker-stall operating area. *8. Poor condition of items provided in the room* The sugar provided in the room was already hardened and appeared to be old. Although this may seem like a minor issue compared with the safety and noise concerns, it reflects a lack of proper room inspection and maintenance.

Clean, spacious and in an excellent location, walking distance from some of Georgetown's best. Outdoor bathroom setup was a surprise to me, but worked out fine. If you are a light sleeper, you may struggle with the noise as the market directly below operates in the early morning hours.

I didn’t realize the property is literally right next to Chowrasta Market, which is super convenient. The area itself is surprisingly quiet, though do note that you’ll need to pass through a small alley and climb some wooden stairs to the place. The staff were very proactive and messaged me on WhatsApp with check-in details ahead of time, and they remained helpful throughout my stay. One thing to keep in mind is that since the building is quite old, you might encounter a few bugs. On a rainy night, some fell onto the bed. They weren’t flying or biting, but it’s something to be aware of. The bathroom is detached from the room and doesn’t have air conditioning, so it can get quite warm. Also, the filtered water provided isn’t cold. Overall, a convenient and well-managed stay, but with a few quirks due to the age of the property.

The location was right next to Chowrasta Market, which was convenient, but also very noisy. They had tried to stop the noise with glass but it was quite noisy at night. Read other reviews that there were earplugs provided, but we did not get any. We reserved a Deluxe King Suite, not the one that had "(off-site)" on it, but we got an off site one anyway. It was a standalone unit, entered through a back alley. We didn't see the main building nor did we know where it was and we didn't have access to it. Staff came in downstairs while we were in the room, so not sure how secure it is. The bathroom is outdoors through the back. It was very hot at the bathroom part. Good thing was the water filter they provided for drinking water. The bed quality is good, but the place looked quite tired. Wall was peeling. It looks good in pictures but the quality of the building wasn't very good. TLDR; Good stay if you're not picky and don't mind the noise.
