Schutterend

Loved that it was fully equipped with everything we needed and very central so we could travel and sightsee with ease.

We used Shutterend as a base for a cycle race out of Wellington and its location and facilities were perfect. Great value and lots of accommodation for the price...and always nice to be on a working farm.

The tranquility of staying on a farm, the good neighbors I had, and their lovely pet dog was a joy everyone was quiet and peaceful, clean skies, low light pollution and the lawn front and back was a nice feature. The wide spaces to walk my dog she loved it! to her it was an adventure of a lifetime, the people greeted us warmly and we felt welcomed, our privacy was respected, the parking is safe and secure behind a gate and covered by a car port roof, the entire farm felt safe and secure, especially with what is going in South Africa at the moment, it's close to town and centrally situated between Wellington and Paarl. The sights of a pony and some sheep was a nice sight hearing the sheep bleating during the day gave it a nice farm feeling, the air when not fouled and depending on wind direction was crisp and clean, the space of the apartment is generous, the shower was amazing, the hostess was friendly and helpful, I would recommend this place if you are prepared, and also take into consideration the pros and cons of the property.

- The sounds of animal abuse from what I could assume is the farm workers on the plot behind us was not pleasant, as the cries of some young dogs and other dogs fighting and voices yelling and beatings being dished out was quite disturbing to say the least, being a animal lover this was heartbreaking to hear and the feeling of being powerless was a sour moment. - The farm workers from the plot behind us walking around at 2 am blasting music from portable speakers kept us up some nights, the weekends it went all out with full on music blaring over the speakers which dulled the feelings of tranquility a bit. - The foul pig manure smell from the neighbouring farm, that drew a biblical amount of flies, which I would advise keeping the door closed and having bug spray set aside. - The floor under the sofa and bed was sticky and under the sofa very dusty. - there is no washing machine and was not convenient for a long stay such as mine, having to drive into town for laundry was not a very efficient use of my time. - The wifi was unreliable, the owner put me into contact with ISP IT who resolved the issue, but this did not last long before more wifi blackouts occurred, this was not convenient as I needed full connectivity for work purposes. - Being the rainy season a door mat on the inside would have prevented tracking mud into the building. - The lawn was amazing, well taken care but the lack of lawn furniture to enjoy the outdoors during times when the smells died down would have been nice touch. - The property is pet friendly which is appreciated, but the back gate is so high off the ground our little doggie could run right underneath it. - a Extra usable cupboard in the second bedroom would have been nice. - The beds were unfortunately rock hard and made our backs ache after just a few days.
