Tunnel Top Inn Ella

We loved our stay at the Top Tunnel. The rooms were very comfortable and it was so quiet. The view from the 2 bedrooms was simply breath taking. The breakfasts were unforgettable and every thing so just so tasty. The fruits, the papaya juice, the yummy pancakes filled with shredded coconut and kithul honey and the tasty coconut roti's were all so delicious - we are still dreaming of them. They offer a free tuk tuk ride into and collection from Ella which was extremely generous. Also, Top Tunnel is literally a 3 minute walk to the Nine Arch bridge. Highly recommend.

The accommodation and breakfast were excellent. The hotel was situated on a hilltop overlooking the tracks of the famous railway line, not far from the Nine Arch Bridge, which is just a few metres away from the hotel. The waterfalls in Sri Lanka’s highlands, Horton Plains National Park, Little Adam’s Peak, Lipton’s Peak with its extensive tea plantations, and Nuwara Eliya with its Victoria Park are unforgettable highlights, all easily accessible from Ella. A special experience is the highly recommended “Ella Spice Garden Cooking School”, where we had the chance to learn about Sri Lanka’s national dishes in a private cooking class. A train journey on the panoramic railway line between Ambewela and Ella was also an unforgettable must-do for us.

On arrival, we couldn’t find the way to the hotel straight away. The hotel staff then kindly helped us to reach the hotel as darkness had already fallen.

The most beautiful and peaceful location. The hosts were brilliant and prepared the best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka. The room was so spacious with a comfortable bed.
