The Old Workshop, Monkton Combe - Elegant Countryside Retreat near Bath

While the property is self-catering, the hosts provided delightful treats: gorgeous Dutch organic shortbread, English muffins, butter, jams, fresh milk, and lovely daffodils. It was the perfect, cozy 'home away from home' for my son's school revision week. Nestled snugly into a steep hillside, the valley location is exceptionally peaceful and filled with birdsong. While the views from inside are quite enclosed, the moment you step outside you are greeted by magnificent scenery. We loved walking down the valley using the route maps recommended by Alison and Andrew. Walking through the passages behind the Monkton Combe Senior School meadow—where we spotted small brown bunnies—and the other side down to the local pub (The Wheelwrights Arms) through the unique 'drung' was a wonderful experience! The steep 15-minute hillside walk via the other 'drung' to the nearest bus stop to the Bath city is beautiful, magnificent double rainbow was remarkable, and I miss the scenic bench nearby. It was a perfect, relaxing home, far better than the buzz of the city.

Clean, modern and well equipped property. Very helpful and friendly hosts, that met us on arrival and good knowledge of the area. All mod cons were present, along with household essentials and the bonus of a few welcome bits that were really made it special. Would love to come back if visiting the area again.

Everything was first class. Exceptional. Owners very obliging and friendly. Facilities were great. Well stocked kitchen. Very modern. Good beds. Excellent showers.

Location. Off narrow road - need to be confident about reversing. Single lane and steep in places.
