Welcome to “The Big House” — a hill country retreat blending historic charm with modern comfort. The Big House is privately located, set atop a hill just outside the small town of Valley Mills, Texas. This 4BR/3BA home features a spa-like primary suite, chef’s kitchen with 48” range, and wraparound porch with hilltop views. Set on 10+ acres with a deck, fire pit, and mature oaks, it’s perfect for peaceful escapes, group gatherings, or family retreats.
The Big House features two large living areas and a downstairs primary suite with a king bed and ensuite bathroom—heated floors, soaking tub, and arched walk-in shower. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms: 2 with queen beds, and 1 with a twin bed plus 2 optional floor foam mattresses (great for kids). Three full bathrooms include an upstairs bath with a clawfoot tub, a guest bath with a walk-in shower, and the ensuite with soaking tub and walk-in shower in the primary bedroom.
A large dining table seats 8 comfortably. The custom kitchen is fully stocked with upgraded appliances, custom white-oak cabinetry, dishware, utensils, and a 48” gas range—plus lots of natural light and views. The living room has a large Roku TV ready for your streaming logins. Laundry room with washer/dryer included.
Outdoors, enjoy a wraparound porch, propane grill, covered seating area, back deck, and fire pit. Mature oaks and native wildflowers surround the space.
While The Big House is private, three guest cabins are located toward the base of the property; if you would like more information on renting out the guest cabins for a larger group stay, please contact the host. Please note: A nearby train may pass through occasionally with a short (10–15 sec) horn—most guests find it part of the local charm.
Other details: Pack-n-play provided. An assortment of games, cards, and children’s books also provided.

This was a wonderful place to stay, there was not a thing we needed during our stay. The view was beautiful, perfect sitting space inside and outside. I recommend this to families and friends!

Wow, what an amazing stay!! This farmhouse is absolutely gorgeous, spacious, full of charm, and decorated so thoughtfully. The kitchen was a dream, I wish we would have had time to make a meal in there, I guess we may have to come back The beds were so comfy too, which you know is so important when you travel. It had everything we needed and more.The outdoor area was such a vibe! It was so peaceful, with plenty of cozy hangout spots. Plus the garden had beautiful blooms we got to check out. We didn’t get a chance to use the brand-new hot tub (sadly ran out of time!) but I can just imagine how incredible it would be under that big Texas starry sky. The hosts were awesome, so kind and made everything super easy with one clear, detailed message. Honestly couldn’t have asked for better.We’d 100% stay here again and recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet, beautiful escape from the city. Total 10/10 experience!! Already looking forward to our next stay at “the big house”!
