A lovely house in a quiet residential neighbourhood. It seems old but parts have been renovated so it feels modern, while preserving some of the traditional tatami rooms. It looks better than in the photos. It's clean, and beds were comfortable and firm. Heating and shower were good. Much thought was put into the details and we appreciated the amenities provided (e.g. face wash, laundry rack, insecticide - which we definitely needed for a big centipede). The Nintendo Switch in the games room was a very fun bonus, you can watch Netflix too. The host was very kind and helpful, when we had a complaint they addressed it promptly and even left a handwritten apology note and some delicious cake! Though it is further from the sights that tourists come for, I chose this place because for a good price we got a lot more space than hotel rooms. (We had a car too.) I believe I made the right choice.

The cooker hood (which we didn't use at all) had a noticeable smell that was amplified when we turned on the heating in the downstairs bedroom. When we brought this up to the host, they very kindly came and cleaned it the next day, after which the smell was still there but much less. Other complaints are very minor - There is not much to eat and no coffee nearby (seems normal for this rural area). The best coffee is probably from 7/11 nearby, I saw locals getting it too. No blackout curtains in the bedrooms. Insects are to be expected in the house. No ice tray in the freezer. The garden is rather overgrown with weeds, but some of those 'weeds' were actually very pretty wildflowers so we didn't mind much.
