Hakone Gora Rinkan

Very spacious, clean and great facilities. Bedding and towels were clean and plentiful. Yukata’s and slippers were provided for use indoors. The onsen was great and each time I used it there was no one else in there so was very relaxing ☺️ It was a short walk up a steep hill from the train station but nothing to much our 5 year old grandson managed it fine. Lovely views over the mountains from our apartment windows.

ゴミ箱が洗面台のところしかない。もう一つ和室か窓のところにあったら良いと思う。 トイレの鍵が閉まらない。家族での利用だったので特に問題はなかったのですが、友達やカップルとだったら鍵は閉めたいと思う。

We had one of the rooms with the private bathroom, which is a bathtub pre filled with the hot spring water, in an outdoor bathroom attached to the bedroom. This was the highlight of the stay for all, although there was much pipework visible from our bath area, the other scenery was lovely and it was very relaxing to enjoy this facility. We were greeted at reception by an English speaking member of staff, asked to leave out shoes in the foyer and given slippers to use (the place was very clean and this clearly contributes to that!). There were small bottles of water each, some green tea and a fridge in the room, and shampoo/conditioner/shower gel in the bathroom, plus in reception a trolly with toothbrushes, razors etc and a selection of different sized yutaka to borrow.

The floor cushions to make up the traditional beds on the Japanese style rooms were very thin, so not the most comfortable. There is no food in hotel or shops in the immediate vicinity of the hotel and whilst it is not technically a long way to Gora town, if you do not have a car and you have been out all day, once you are in the hotel you are unlikely to want to go out again! It is a 10-15 minute walk from Gora station and uphill to get there so take your dinner with you. There is a vending machine with snacks but that's it. The public onsen did feel not as luxurious as others I have stayed (changing and washing area super clean though), and although there was a window looking out to a wooded area, it was difficult to see through as the window was not clean - possibly limescal/water mineral build up, which was also in the area surrounding the bath, and in and maybe some of the areas needed a little refresh/upgrade.
