Cozy Apartment in Vilnius Paupys

Czysty i przytulny apartament, idealny na city break w Wilnie. Właściciele życzliwi, pomocni, a lokalizacja blisko Užupis, co jest dodatkowym atutem.

The apartment is in a very moden residential block, in a district that used to be industrial but is being redeveloped for residential use. (It reminded me of Salford, but nicer.) The apartment is essentially one large room plus bathroom. It’s nicely decorately and (mostly - see below) well equipped. The veranda overlooks a back lane that is little used by cars, and has unusual but pleasant views. There are some small shops and a covered market nearby, and plenty of restaurants, including the excellent Firenze. It takes about 20 minutes to walk through Užupis to the Old Town and onwards to the main city centre. So all good!

So why not full marks? A couple of reasons - Firstly, the kitchen and dining equipment seemed rather mean. Worst of all, there was no oven, or microwave, or even so much as a toaster. A serious limitation, and a shortcoming that could be corrected so easily. Second, the owner only sent the two codes needed for access to the property on the day the booking started, even though I had raised a query with her the day before. I don’t like setting out on a 12 hour journey knowing that I haven’t got the information I need to complete it. I like it even less when, at the end of the journey, I’m standing outside the property and unable to get inside. Admiitedly, the owner quickly responded and let me in, and it didn’t help that a glitch in Booking.com meant I couldn’t access Messages from my phone. But it would not have been an issue if the owner had released the codes the day before.

Location - local shops and cafes, close to old town and near relatives

Lack of kitchen 'stuff', crockery etc. Lack of soft seating. Only place to watch TV in comfort is the bed which has useless hanging seat in line of sight. Shower over bath and no curtain.
