As early as 1998, Rysum was named the most beautiful village in Lower Saxony. Surrounding the church—located at the highest point of the historic village on a mound and home to one of the oldest playable organs in the world—are the former farmhands’ and craftsmen’s houses, as well as large farmsteads, arranged in a circular pattern, creating the distinctive charm of this circular village.

On the outer ring of the village stands the Gulfhof, believed to have been built by Ufko Andreesen van Senden around 1890. In recent years, it has been extensively renovated with great attention to detail and in accordance with historic preservation standards, and converted into an exceptional vacation residence featuring 15 high-quality apartments.
Even during the renovation phase, the old building successfully withstood many adverse conditions—including wind, weather, and, above all, water—and now proudly shines in new splendor.

All apartments are duplexes and feature modern floor plans. By incorporating the historic post-and-beam framework into the interior design, the units also gain a special, distinctive character. Underfloor heating, solid wood parquet floors, and fixtures and ceramic tiles from renowned manufacturers ensure a high level of living comfort. Each apartment includes a spacious terrace as well as a parking space with a storage shed. The outdoor areas of the approximately 4,000-square-meter property are characterized, particularly on the south and east sides, by generous green spaces that have been tastefully landscaped with shrubs and hedges. A grove of mature trees rounds out the overall picture.

The Gulfhof van Senden is the ideal starting point for a wide range of activities: hiking, biking, or kayaking in the Krummhörn region; cultural excursions to popular nearby towns such as Greetsiel, Pilsum, Norden/Norddeich, and Emden; or even day trips to the nearby East Frisian islands of Borkum, Norderney, and Juist. The somewhat secluded, little-known natural beach at the Knock is just a short bike ride away and is a special highlight.

Our vacation rental 6, “Anton,” accommodates up to four people and impresses with its spacious and modern furnishings and well-thought-out architecture. The incorporation of the large former barn door gives the apartment a unique studio-like atmosphere. The large panoramic window not only makes the apartment exceptionally bright but also offers you a sweeping view of the beautiful East Frisian landscape. Look forward to enjoying breakfast on the spacious, sun-drenched terrace, having an evening barbecue on the provided grill, or simply relaxing under the umbrella or in the garden.

Spanning two floors, you’ll find tasteful, high-quality amenities, including real wood parquet flooring, underfloor heating, a smart TV, Bluetooth speakers (Marshall Stanmore III), a fully equipped kitchen with an induction cooktop (original Bora cooktop), dishwasher, Nespresso machine, milk frother, toaster, microwave, Wi-Fi, and much more.

On the first floor, this charming vacation apartment features a spacious, harmoniously furnished living and dining area with custom built-ins that are perfectly coordinated with the thoughtfully designed overall concept. We place great importance on ensuring that you feel just as comfortable in our “shared home” as we do as the owners. That’s why the furnishings are diverse and high-quality, right down to the smallest details. In addition to the usual appliances, you’ll find a wide selection of nearly new books and travel guides, as well as board games. The spacious, open-concept kitchen area—equipped with all amenities—is integrated into the cozy living area. A large dining table for 6 to 8 people invites you to enjoy meals together in a convivial atmosphere. The first floor also features a modern bathroom (with a walk-in rain shower) and a storage room.

The upper floor features two tastefully furnished bedrooms, one with a double bed (200x180 cm), and one with either a single bed (200x80 cm) or a double bed (200x160 cm). The east-facing bedroom also features a separate desk for working. The view from the historic round window above the old barn entrance also gives the apartment a very special, unique touch. Also on the upper floor is another modern and spacious bathroom, equipped with a floor-to-ceiling rain shower, toilet, and a heated towel rack.

The bright and welcoming atmosphere, combined with modern amenities and nestled within the still-visible history of this historic, protected building, will delight you and ensure that you feel completely at home during your stay.

Children are, of course, also very welcome and can let off steam with toys and fun in the children’s room or on the lawn in front of the terrace. For our youngest guests, a high chair and a crib are also available. All accessible electrical outlets in the vacation rental are equipped with built-in child safety covers. Night lights with motion sensors are also provided.

Laundry facilities are available. The complex has a washing machine and dryer (for a fee).

You can park your car safely in the parking space assigned to the apartment (which includes an electric charging station). Bicycles you bring with you can be stored safely with access to power in the lockable storage room behind the parking spaces.
