About this apartment rental
On the outer ring of the village stands the Gulfhof, believed to have been built by Ufko Andreesen van Senden around 1890. In recent years, it has undergone extensive restoration in accordance with historic preservation standards, with great attention to detail, and has been converted into an exceptional vacation residence featuring 15 high-quality apartments.
Even during the renovation phase, the old building successfully withstood many adverse conditions—including wind, weather, and, above all, water—and now proudly shines in new splendor.
All apartments are duplexes and feature modern floor plans. By incorporating the historic post-and-beam framework into the interior design, the units also gain a special, distinctive character. Underfloor heating, solid wood parquet floors, and fixtures and ceramic tiles from renowned manufacturers ensure a high level of living comfort. Each apartment includes a spacious terrace as well as a parking space with a storage shed. The outdoor areas of the approximately 4,000-square-meter property feature particularly generous green spaces on the south and east sides, tastefully landscaped with shrubs and hedges. A grove of mature trees rounds out the overall picture.
The Gulfhof van Senden is the ideal starting point for a wide range of activities: hiking, biking, or kayaking in the Krummhörn region; cultural excursions to popular nearby towns such as Greetsiel, Pilsum, Norden/Norddeich, and Emden; or even day trips to the nearby East Frisian islands of Borkum, Norderney, and Juist. The somewhat secluded, little-known natural beach at Knock is just a short bike ride away and is a special highlight.
Gulfhof van Senden - Beneke (first floor/upper floor):
Relaxation, coziness, enjoyment, and harmony—a hyggelig vacation in East Frisia!
You’ll find the perfect setting for this in our high-quality and lovingly furnished “Beneke” apartment, which spans approximately 85 square meters over two floors and accommodates 4–6 people.
You enter the apartment through the vast Gulf, the former stable and barn wing of the Gulfhof, built in the 19th century, which still impressively showcases the post-and-beam construction typical of that era. In case of bad weather, the Gulf offers additional space and activities with foosball, a ping-pong table, and toy horses.
On the first floor of the apartment, there is a spacious living-dining area with an open kitchen, as well as a fully equipped bathroom with a shower and toilet, a storage closet, and a coat niche that blends harmoniously between a historic beam and the apartment door.
Another bathroom with a floor-to-ceiling shower, as well as two bedrooms with large skylights (including insect screens and blackout blinds), are located on the upper floor. In the upper bathroom, the integrated beam of the post-and-beam framework lends the space a very special charm.
The south-facing terrace, sheltered from the wind by the porch of the rebuilt former cookhouse, borders directly on the property’s large garden. There is plenty of space there for a cozy breakfast outdoors or an evening barbecue on the provided charcoal grill (available starting in spring 2025).
A parking space belonging to the apartment is available for your car, with access to an (additional-fee) electric charging station. You’ll find a secure space for bicycles with a power outlet—for example, to charge e-bikes—in a lockable storage room behind the parking spaces.
The master bedroom features a double bed (180 x 200 cm) with two separate mattresses, allowing you to choose between firmness levels II and III. An open cabinet-and-drawer combination provides ample storage space. A travel crib can be provided upon request.
The two single beds (90 x 200 cm) in the second bedroom can easily be pushed together to form a double bed or stacked on top of each other to create more space for playing. In addition, a bunk bed offers 2 more sleeping spots (90 x 200 cm) for children or slender guests weighing up to 70 kg. Two dressers (one of which has a built-in clothes rod) provide ample space for clothing and personal items.
Safety rails have been installed both at the top and at the bottom of the ladder. Child-proof outlets as well as night lights—with and without motion sensors—are also available.
The apartment is therefore ideal for families with up to 4 children, as well as for grandparents and parents traveling together with 2 children.
The modern, fully equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking together. An oven, toaster, microwave, a large refrigerator with a freezer compartment, and a dishwasher are all included, as is an induction cooktop with a built-in range hood.
Three cups of tea with cream and Kluntje served in authentic East Frisian teacups are a “East Frisian tradition,” but coffee lovers will also find what they’re looking for with a drip coffee maker, milk frother, and the Nespresso Essenza mini.
At the large dining table with a cozy bench and comfortable chairs, you can relax and eat, drink, chat, or play one of the games provided together.
A 55-inch smart TV and a compact all-in-one audio system, including a CD/MP3 player, provide entertainment.
On the large, cozy corner sofa overlooking the garden, you can also relax wonderfully without digital media or browse through one of the books provided. Travel guides, maps, and brochures to help you plan the rest of your stay are also available.
Children will love their own little table with two chairs, art supplies, picture books, and building blocks, including Lego and Duplo. A high chair and children’s tableware are also provided.
Discover the fascinating landscape of Krummhörn with its circular villages, churches, mills, dikes, salt marshes, islands, and beaches, let yourself be enchanted by the region and its people, and then return to your cozy vacation rental in beautiful Rysum, where old and new form a harmonious blend and the hands of the clock seem to turn a little slower.
Check-in is from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and check-out is from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
