La Jolla's biggest draw for locals and visitors alike are the beautiful beaches. During the summer and autumn months, the surf is relatively gentle, with warm waters in the 70s. Swimmers, snorkelers, scuba divers, kayakers and surfers can enjoy the golden sands of La Jolla Shores, the Cove and Windansea. And be sure to keep an eye out for migrating whales off the coast as they travel to and from Baja California.

(I rented this apartment for my parents for 10 days.)The decor is lovely and looks great in pictures. However, there were many issues in the first days - there is no heat, so the power blew out while using the space heaters the first night; multiple texts and calls to the outsourced call center who did not know the apartment and suggested we move the washer/dryer unit ourselves to access the breakers (which none of us could); waiting hours in a half dark apartment for the handyman to address the problem; concern about using the space heaters again for fear they would blow the breakers; a sink that didn't drain; some dirty bed linens; no interior door to the unit so you must use a baby gate to ensure you don't fall out of the apartment in the middle of the night, etc.. These were minor inconveniences that, taken on their own, would not warrant this review. The biggest problem is that the unit has two sets of steep stairs to access the 2nd floor apartment, but there were no railings anywhere (code issue?!) After moving them in, my parents could not leave the unit unassisted due to the lack of railings. Also, what if a fire broke out? Finally, after three days and multiple emails, texts, and phone calls, they put up railings, only for the lower stairs. We were lucky no one had an accident. The management/owner was slow to respond, and the response was ultimately insufficient. I hope they correct these problems in the future.

The place is very nice and seemed clean on the inside for the most part. You can walk to restaurants and a few shops and the beach isn't far. Unfortunately, there were a few issues to contend with during our stay. The deck was ripped up and some of the patio furniture shown in the pictures was missing. The business below the rental unit was being treated for black mold or asbestos which was concerning and we were told, related to the deck needing to be torn up. Loud banging and music could be heard from the workers addressing the issue. We were told these issues just came up but it would have been nice to have been made aware of these problems prior to our arrival. Seems dishonest to show a bunch of pictures of a nice deck with patio furniture and that not reflect the reality of the unit. The black mold or asbestos issue should absolutely have been communicated to us prior to our arrival and we are concerned about having possibly come into contact with something hazardous. We would have booked a different place had we known in advance which is probably why they did not inform us. A minor issue to mention is the front door cannot be locked so you have to go in and out of the building in the smelly alleyway near all the trash. Others may have better luck once the black mold/asbestos situation is resolved, the patio furniture is replaced and the front door restored to working condition but I wouldn't book this place until those issues are addressed.
