We found Alder Cottage situated in a very scenic spot, however our first impressions of the cleanliness was very disappointing. On arrival we entered the cottage and as the light was fading I turned on both floor lamps either side of the fireplace., unfortunately they both were full of cobwebs and dust, the lights on the wall above the fire were also full of cobwebs. The 2 sofas in the living room obviously had not been hoovered as there were a load of crumbs and food under the cushions. The first morning we went to make breakfast, I lifted the frying pan out only to feel grease on the base and hardened food on actual inside of pan, which I had to start cleaning. There were also cobwebs in upstairs bathroom corners with spiders attached. The cottage itself was charming but I have to agree with other customers about the heaters. We found the cottage to be cold and baring in mind we had a beautiful week of weather for September it was cold both morning and night which meant you definitely needed to use fire in living area to be comfortable. Just be aware of the cost of blocks if you burn a fire as it can add quite a bit onto your stay. Apart from these mostly cleanliness issues Alder cottage is charming its such a pity attention to detail was lacking.

The cottage facilities are very good and although it’s in a quiet location there is plenty to do and see within easy access of the cottage. The wildlife around the cottage ranging from many different birds to squirrels and seals and porpoises in the loch. For provisions, Dunoon is only 20 minutes drive and has 2 good supermarkets.

Great cottage and facilities close to lots of great walks, perfect for getting away from it all to relax with great views.

Had a great relaxing holiday away from it all ( the good weather was a bonus). Lots of walks to do and some great scenery. Would recommend the strone inn for food. Welcome pack was a lovely touch.

Having missed our usual visit to Scotland earlier in the year because of hospitalisation (hip operation) we decided to grab a late break. We had beautiful weather with blue skies and snow on the hills but at the end of November that did mean it was cold. We did struggle to get the cottage warm initially (We obviously wanted to be cosy at this time of the year and had seen somewhere in Argyll Holidays literature that there was central heating .... not sure that one storage heater for the whole kitchen/lounge area qualifies) but we eventually managed to master getting the wood burner to the optimum level and David was very prompt and helpful in supplying the extra wood that we got through. Will consider another visit but not quite so late in the year.

A comfortable cottage with a great view and nice deck to sit out on with perfect peace and quiet. Lots to do in local area and with the ferries can get to Isle of Bute and Kintyre. The Benmore Botanic garden is splendid as is Puck's Glen. The swimpool in Dunoon is very good especially on rainy days. The owners make you very welcome with eggs, milk and other goodies which was much appreciated. We didn't try the Quadbikes also based on the farm but they looked fun. Outside the cottage there is a red squirrel and lots of birds including a woodpecker. There are also bats who seem to like trying unusual homes as one morning my partner found one tucked into his laptop!
