You can take a walk or a ride on the walkways and tracks around the village, head to Rings Beach, ride or walk the 8km track or walk along the Matarangi Beach and Spit track. Matarangi has a beautiful 18-hole golf course with club rooms and a restaurant. Every Saturday there is a village market take a wander through and buy some local produce and chat with the locals; the market is located near the 4 Square Supermarket.
If you happen to be staying in Matarangi in April, then you should try "A Taste of Matarangi" a festival where you will be able to try local food and wine and enjoy some great local music.
Take a drive to Whangapoua Beach, which is the gateway to the undisturbed beauty of New Chums Beach a stunning beach only accessible by boat, or by foot at low tide.
Matarangi has several tennis courts available to the public and they are free to use just bring your tennis gear.
The boat ramp is easily accessed so take the boat and cruise out to the beautiful Great Mercury Island, enjoy a swim in the clear waters, or head out for a fish or a dive there are some great spots to find a crayfish for dinner.
