What you can experience around the forest house
The Harz Mountains begin right at the forest house’s doorstep. You can simply set off on foot—through the colorful deciduous forest, along small paths, past ancient trees. For those who prefer a more active outing: In winter, the Ramberg cross-country ski trail starts right by the house—ideal for cross-country skiing and beautiful winter hikes.
There’s plenty to discover in the surrounding area: the Teufelsmauer, the Rosstrappe, and Falkenstein Castle are all easily accessible by car. Places like Wernigerode, Blankenburg, and Quedlinburg are also worth a visit—with their old towns, half-timbered houses, and cozy cafés.
Just a few kilometers away lies Thale with the Harz Mountain Theater, the Hexentanzplatz, and the cable car—there’s plenty going on here, especially on Walpurgis Night.
And if you’re in the mood for a special experience: Take the Brockenbahn, an old steam locomotive, for a leisurely ride up to the highest peak of the Harz Mountains.
