About this apartment rental

The Historic House of Santo André is a 3-storey building which with its 5 suites all with private bathrooms and air conditioning is an excellent solution for families or groups that want to travel together.

Located between the districts of Castelo, Alfama, Mouraria and Graça which are the heart of Old Lisbon that survived the earthquake of 1755, a few minutes up to the castle and a few minutes down into the labyrinth that is the old Alfama and Mouraria, filled with life, smells and music.

The earliest references to the Church of Santo André are from the beginning of the 13th century (1209 or 1229) and are also referred to in the Inquiries of the reign of King Dom Afonso III (1248 to 1274). It will have been made the seat of Parish of Santo André in 1286 after donation by the King Dom Diniz.

The church collapsed almost completely with the great earthquake of 1755 that destroyed the city of Lisbon and was the beginning of the end of the Portuguese empire, having undergone reconstruction works that finished in 1779.

After the liberal wars (between liberals and absolutists) from 1828-1834 and the extinction of religious orders, the church stuffing was sold and in 1843 the building was partially demolished for the construction of the square.

Two of the outer walls of the old church as well as several interior structures were used in the reconstruction of the new building in 1847, which remain to this day.

In 2015 the building was in a state of very advanced degradation, having been completely rehabilitated, and this rehabilitation was accompanied by the archaeology and anthropology services of the Lisbon City Hall.

A precious tile panel was found that was carefully removed and transferred to the National Tile Museum where it can be seen.

Also found and preserved, 2 of the arches of the inner chapels as well as part of the original walls of the reconstruction of 1779. Integrated in the magnificent architectural project can be observed during your stay.

Check-in and check-out times

Check-in time is between 17:00 and 22:00 on the start date of your booking unless another time has been agreed with us.

Check-out time is until 11:00 on the last day of your booking unless another time has been agreed with us. Unauthorized late departures will incur additional charges.

On the day of arrival, guests must present their identity documents (passport or identity card) to the owners.

By law, we are obliged to report some personal details of each guest to the Immigration and Borders Service (SEF).

Extra guests

The guest on whose behalf the booking was made must stay in the accommodation as we cannot accept bookings for other people.

Extra people are not allowed beyond the number of people on the reservation.

Airbnb and Booking take this issue so seriously that in the event of a complaint, the booking is canceled and the guest is not entitled to any compensation.

Quiet hours

Quiet hours are from 22:00 to 7:00.

Please keep noise levels to a minimum during this time to ensure a peaceful environment for all guests.

Tobacco and drugs

As a family home, we have a no-smoking policy, so we ask that you do not smoke inside the property

What you do in your personal time is entirely up to you, but when you stay in our home, we have a strict no drugs policy.

Pets

Although animals can be very well-behaved at home, how they will behave in a new space is not a given. And nobody wants to hear a dog barking at 2am or a cat meowing

Unfortunately, the costs of cleaning up after the animal are enormous in order to avoid allergies for the next guests.

And then there's the problem of smell: nobody who has an animal thinks their house smells bad. But anyone who enters the house will smell it immediately. The house would have to be open for 2 or 3 days for the smell to disappear and that's very expensive.

Any violation of this rule will incur an extra cleaning fee.

Parties

For us, the safety and well-being of hosts, guests and the community in general are a priority, so parties and events of any kind are forbidden in the apartment.

Airbnb and Booking take this issue so seriously that in the event of a complaint, the booking is canceled and the guest is not entitled to any compensation.

Garbage and recycling

Please dispose of your garbage in the bin on the day you leave the property. We appreciate your help in separating recyclable materials. The location of the garbage cans can be found in the House Manual.

This small step makes a big difference to the environment and will help us avoid a fine.

Before you leave, wash and put away the dishes and kitchen utensils you have used.

Accidents

Accidents happen. If you damage something, let us know as soon as possible so that we can take care of it.

It is expensive to arrive at the property and discover damage that could lead to your next stay being canceled because there is no time to repair it. In this case, we will request a compensation

We loved the location in the old city. Surrounded by shops and good restaurants. The property was in great shape with five en-suite bedrooms. The managers always responded quickly to any questions we had. There were ten in our family group from highschoolers to grandparents and we all enjoyed the house. As long as you can negotiate stairs and the steep hills of Lisbon, you will not regret choosing Casa historical de Santo Andre.

Beautiful, spacious house in a top location in the lively Alfama district. About a 20-minute walk to Bairro Alto. Communication with the property manager was good and clear.

The rental accommodations were great for our family. Enough room for everyone and sitting around the kitchen table at the end of our day was perfect. Having a small store, several cafes, little bars, restaurants, and viewing areas near by was very convenient for us. There is A LOT of walking up hill or down hill from the VRBO but we were very aware of the walking involved before our stay. We made several meals and did laundry during our stay so we did use the appliances and there should be instructions for the stove, microwave and washer/dryer. We figured it out but it took as a couple of tries. There is plenty of dishes and cookware for our group which was great for all of us to enjoy a meal together. There were several dish towels but no dish clothes for dishes, could have been several rolls of paper towels also but we did buy our own at the local store. For a large group of 8 people the accommodations worked out very well.
