Coastguard Lookout is an old building and though built to the Coastguard Agency Standards, it sits in a very extreme and exposed position on the beach, which is one of its virtues, but also exposes it in storms to water ingress no matter what construction details are used. Both doors on the North East elevation utilise a storm section profile and water bars at ground level but in extreme north easterly storms water can penetrate these precautions.

Please note: If you wish to hold a photo shoot or a TV/Film production at this property an additional fee will apply. The necessary licences must also be obtained from The Dungeness Estate http://www.dungenessestate.co.uk/
Anyone who is found to hold such an event without permission or the relevant licences will be charged retrospectively.

This is an unusual 'house' - the conversion has been done well in limited space (though the bathroom could have been better thought through!). All the furniture and fittings are right for the style and space, don't clutter the rooms, and are clean. All the equipment is there in the kitchen, and really nice crockery and cutlery. The best feature is the massive windows on the ground and top two floors - wonderful views on all sides, and keep the wind out! We had excellent customer service from the owner over a small problem, which was promptly and pleasantly dealt with. The only, minor, downside was that some of the cushions and the mattress are getting a bit flat from use, making them less comfortable for larger people like ourselves. We also thought it would be easy to install an internet TV rather than use a computer (which we were not familiar with) - that said, we only used it once! All in all, a lovely place, with beautiful views, nice walks, and very relaxing. We really enjoyed it

If you like to stay in places that are completely unique or quirky this is one of those places. On the beach ( the UK,s only designated desert ) exposed to the elements that the English weather can create, from stormy seas, beautiful sunrises and on our last evening there a low in the sky full moon with France in the background. The only negatives with this property for us were the uncomfortable beds and the chairs in the living area on the second floor. The bathroom area ( I know it’s difficult in such buildings ) but a sliding door instead of the heavy curtain (not very hygienic) for the toilet would be better. The general appearance is looking a bit tired inside and the sealant around the bath needs changing. Do not let this review put you off if you like staying in unusual, in a nice way, places, we had a great week there.

Location is great as is character of building. Kitchen has all you need in terms of crockery, pans, knives etc. No comfortable chairs inside or outside, which is a real oversight. Really should have a safety mat in bath/shower, ideally a towel rail to hold on to and to have towel to hand - it is hard to get in and out of and dangerous in that you can easily slip and fall, whatever your mobility, age, height etc.

We stayed here for two nights. The location is off the scale fantastic. The lookout would have been brilliant when it was first done up but over time it’s got a bit tired and really needs a refresh. It has some very good quality fixtures and fittings but they haven’t really been cared for. Bathroom arrangement with a curtain separating the loo from the bedroom is really odd and just doesn’t work very well. A sliding door would do the job much better. Take some insect spray unless you like earwigs. It’s a very expensive night or two away but the location is everything. Would have liked some shampoo/ conditioner, some paper kitchen towels and a nespresso type coffee machine included in the really hefty price! I would recommend that the owners stay there for a night or two to see how it functions for themselves.
