3 stars Holiday apartment TYPE D: Old Captain's House on the ground floor The idyllic Baltic Sea resort Laboe (about 5500 inhabitants) is picturesquely located at the exit of the Kiel Fjord on the eastern shore. The former fishing village has become a popular holiday and beach resort. Laboe is an old place and was first mentioned 1240th The name Laboe is derived from the Slavic "Lubodne" which means "Schwanenort". And even today, the swan is the heraldic animal Laboe. The long, sandy beach slopes very gently down to the fjord towards, so it is especially recommended for families with young children. Directly on the beach promenade is the adventure. With the Kiel Fjord, one of the busiest waterways in the world on your doorstep offers "beach" a special attraction for "Sehleute" who can watch the ships passing extensively. The panorama from Laboe is dominated by the world-famous 85-meter naval memorial visible far out. In this memorial all retarded people at sea is to the fortunes recalls and should teach peaceful seafaring on free seas. From the top, visitors have a wonderful view over the fjord and the Baltic Sea in clear weather. At the foot of the memorial is for several years the submarine U 995 as a technical museum. The movie "The Boat" plays on a submarine, which belongs as well as U 995 the famous class VII C. A visit of U995 offers an impressive insight in what indescribable Enge had to live for months the submarine men. The Kiel Fjord is considered the sailing Mecca ( "Kieler Woche") par excellence. Nearby are the Danish islands Langeland and Aero, the so-called "Danish South Sea". Exhausted sailors find rest and relaxation in the Laboer marina.
