The region

Porlock Weir is a picturesque harbour village on the Exmoor National Park coastline in Somerset, with a history stretching back to the 15th century. The small tidal harbour, with its ancient lock gates and pebble beach, sits at the heart of a thriving community.

You'll find a welcoming pub, restaurants ranging from relaxed dining to Michelin-listed Italian cuisine, cosy cafes, and a popular street food takeaway -- all within walking distance of the harbour. Independent shops and galleries line the lanes, including Exmoor Glass, the Harbour Gallery, and Porlock Bay Oysters, which opened expanded premises in 2024.

The larger village of Porlock is approximately one mile away and has a broader range of amenities including grocery shops, a traditional butcher, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre, and a selection of independent restaurants and tea rooms. Most shops in Porlock and Porlock Weir keep hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending during the summer season.

Porlock Weir was recently used as a filming location for The Salt Path, the adaptation of Raynor Winn's bestselling memoir about walking the South West Coast Path.

The stable block is a beautiful place to stay, brilliantly planned out and high spec throughout. The views are incredible and we had everything we needed for a lovely stay.

We had an amazing stay! The Stable Block has perfect facilities and comfy sofa and bed. Our dog loved it too and had plenty of space. The driveway is tight, but totally manageable as we had a big car and fitted in. Really great location for beach walks. Would recommend a visit to Lynton and Minehead!! We visited The Ship Inn at Porlock Weir, only a short walk from the house. Amazing food and friendly staff!

A comfortable and well-equipped cottage in a peaceful location with an attractive sea view. Brilliant multi-hued sunrise, coastal and woodland walks from the door.

The cottage is lovely and well equipped. The views are wonderful and the garden is nice to sit and relax in. We had a wonderful week and would recommend the cottage to anyone.

The view from the bedroom window over the sea is superb. You can see right across the water to Wales if the weather is clear. The gardens are lovely. The bed is very comfortable and coupled with the views, which can be seen from the bed makes it a lovely experience. The downside is that the vehicular access to the property is 'challenging' to say the least. The lane outside is very narrow and the gates are also narrow. I struggled to get my VW Golf in without hitting something and I know the other guests in the other property (who also had a Golf) had the same issue, so it's not just me. I don't know whether you would be able to get a bigger car in.

Peaceful and beautiful with the sound of sea lapping on shore. Accommodation suitable for two people, would of preferred a washing machine to a dishwasher but overall a lovely holiday definitely would go again.

Little piece of heaven. So nice for a much needed relaxing break. We loving coming to Porlock Weir and this was our third stay. We will definitely be coming again in the future. Lovely views and sound of the sea. With lots of walks and areas to explore it's a great location.

Amazing views over the sea from the bedroom window - difficult to prize ourselves away! But when we did ..... Fantastic location for exploring the area. Lots to see and do, and everyone is so friendly. We had a great time and so did our dog. We were so lucky with the weather too - perfect!
