Tucked into the lush mountainside above Coral Bay, behind an electronic gate, Great Turtle Villa is a casually elegant vacation villa with four bedrooms in two two-story pavilions bisected by a pool.
Great Turtle Villa is accessed via all paved roads, a rare amenity on St. John and very welcome in a tropical downpour. It is located in the comfortable, upscale neighborhood of Upper Carolina. Surrounding homes are on large lots hidden by lush foliage which provides lots of privacy. Enter Great Turtle Villa's drive through an electronic gate which not only adds extra privacy and security but it also keeps the wild donkeys out!
The front door opens onto the larger pavilion's main level which contains the attractive living and dining areas and the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen with a marble-topped work table and breakfast bar. In the living area, a flat-screen TV, stereo, DVD, plus music and video libraries, provide indoor entertainment. The fully-equipped kitchen boasts stainless appliances, granite counters and enough dishes, bake-ware, and pans to satisfy the most particular chef. Hand-polished mahogany screened french doors open onto spacious shaded decks with cushy rockers and inviting chaises lounges, perfect for enjoying the cool trade-wind breezes. An outdoor walkway above the pool and courtyard garden leads to the other pavilion with its master bedroom suite. An open staircase heads down beside the garden, passing exquisite orchids and a stately coconut palm, as it leads to the lower pool deck level with three more bedrooms and a home office.
All four equal size bedrooms open onto large decks, with dazzling views, AC, adjoining baths, and walk-in closets making Great Turtle Villa a perfect vacation rental for friends or families to share. No one gets stuck in the "back bedroom with no view". The pool, just steps from your bedroom, is perfect, from a morning dip to a midnight swim. Everything about the experience was pretty good except there does seem to be an issue with the water heater. I saw the button in the two stand alone rooms in the second building but it did nothing. In all fairness I didnt let the host know simply because we didnt want to deal with it. Also, on the very last day when we were packing up, not check out time, a strange man walked in the house and started to walk past me without acknowledging me. He had two towel racks in his hand. I got a bit loud asking what he was doing to which then he said he didnt realize we were guests and that he would return? That was a bit uncomfortable.

There were supposed to be 7 family members coming, but the 2 oldest coudn't make it due to health issues. We chose this villa because it had separate bedrooms and great views for all. The 5 that attended had a fabulous time, particularly enjoying the wonderful outdoor area, pool, and views.
We have been to villas on Majestic Mile before so Mark met us at the house. He showed us around and left us with a bottle of Rum which we enjoyed over the week.

Our family of 7 were lucky enough to stay at Great Turtle for 7 days. The floor plan, outdoor space, pool, en-suite bathrooms, etc. were all perfect for our stay. The views of Coral Bay are stunning throughout the day and the stars at night were incredible. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

We had the best week at the Great Turtle in Coral Bay. Traveling with our children and grandparents, the house was exactly what we needed with separate suites for everyone. The balconies offered a beautiful view of Coral Bay and beyond. The house had everything we needed from beach chairs, to floaties, and coolers. The property managers were also incredibly helpful, answering any and all questions we had throughout the week and suggesting activities. We will 100% be back. Awesome house and awesome location!
