About this house rental

Come use our massive creative space to write the next Southern Rock ballad or just soak in the atmosphere! This historic home is the childhood home of the Van Zant family, including Lynyrd Skynyrd founder Ronnie Van Zant. The epic rise to fame of the original version of Lynyrd Skynyrd was tragically cut short by a plane crash in 1977 that took Ronnie's life, and that of several other members of the band. But their music will live forever, and hopefully this house will stand as well as a living tribute to the Van Zants.  Inside this main house, you'll find some cool memorabilia, a vintage 1938 Brunswick pool table, and a retro 70's feel, to remind us all of the way things were, with a hint of nostalgia.  Your visit will help ensure this house forever remains a part of Rock n Roll history!  See also, our other three listings at VZH - the Annex, Studio, and Hideaway.  Contact us to book larger groups!  Please note: if you have sensitive allergies, any of the other three units would be better for you.  This is a large unit, with many nooks and crannies, and although we do our absolute best to keep it spotless, it can get musty in the summer when the ACs are off for any length of time and a very few people have had allergy issues, although 99% of guests are fine and enjoy the 60's-70's vibe!

The Van Zant house is a living memorial for fans of Ronnie Van Zant and family to enjoy. This home is not for modern conveniences and comfort. The pool table and musical instruments are a great addition. This place was exactly what I thought it would be, I enjoyed every minute!

We are great fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd so we were willing to spend 400 to stay the night in such an iconic place where the kids grew up. We were disappointed to see that there was no effort to include stories of the actual experiences that took place in the home (ie: who's room was who's, favorite meals, activities, singing as young kids, sitting around the fireplace, who picked on who, parents jobs, odd jobs of the boys, kinds of vehicles they drove, kinds of trouble they got into around the house, first song they wrote as kids, etc). There is an aunt who wrote in the guest book who welcomes any questions. The owners should call her to collect some stories to be posted on the walls. We would also suggest a few fixes like wallpaper falling down, a fresh coat of paint in places, possibly replacing the refer that is covered in rust, replacing the kitchen seat covers that are covered in stains, new towels and an actual curtain or shades behind the bed. You can keep the authenticity but make the stay a little more inviting and comfortable.
