About this cabin rental

Summary:

The Royal Cabin blends the character of a preserved 1789 log cabin with the comfort of a spacious modern retreat. Set on three private acres near Front Royal, this six bedrooms, it features warm gathering spaces, a hot tub, fire pit, game areas, and thoughtful details for families and groups.

Before you ever step inside, The Royal Cabin tells its story: a preserved 1789 log cabin facade, a welcoming covered front porch, and a home thoughtfully expanded for modern gatherings.

Inside, the home opens into a bright kitchen and dining area designed for gathering, with modern comforts thoughtfully layered into the cabin’s historic character. The farmhouse style kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, bakeware, and serveware for everything from big breakfasts to holiday dinners. Stainless steel appliances, generous counter space, and a large island make it easy to cook together, while bar seating keeps everyone connected during meal prep. Beside the kitchen, the dining area looks out over the yard, where deer and foxes are often spotted at dusk.

Just beyond, the Great Room centers around a custom built mantle and 70” electric fireplace. Settle in for movie nights on the 75” TV, enjoy the relaxed glow of soft lighting, or unwind after a day exploring the Shenandoah Valley.

The Great Room opens into the preserved 1789 original log cabin, where hand hewn timbers still tell the home’s story. Inside, a custom built game table sets the stage for late night board games and conversation. A cozy reading loft above offers a quiet spot to sip wine, read, or take in the character of old wood blended with thoughtful modern design. In cooler months, the propane fireplace keeps this historic part of the home especially warm and inviting.

The Royal Cabin includes six bedrooms arranged across three levels, offering space, privacy, and comfort for families and groups. On the main level, the Primary King Suite includes a king bed, full ensuite bath, TV, and easy access to the main living areas, making it ideal for guests who prefer to avoid stairs. On the second level, guests will find three comfortable bedrooms: the Green Room with a king bed, the Red Room with a queen bed, and the Blue Room with a queen bed. On the lower level, the Second King Suite offers a king bed, full ensuite bath, dedicated workspace, and easy access to the game room and lounge. The Twin Room includes two twin beds and sits beside the entertainment space, making it a great fit for kids, friends, or additional guests.

Step out from the Great Room into the wide backyard, where open skies and wooded surroundings create an easy place to unwind. Follow the stone path to the hot tub for a soak beneath the stars, or gather around the propane fire pit for conversation and s’mores. The covered porch, complete with hanging chairs and a gas grill, makes it easy to linger after dinner.

For friendly competition, guests can enjoy a lineup of outdoor games, including bocce ball and cornhole. Whether you are relaxing on the porch, watching the kids play in the yard, soaking in the hot tub, or gathering around the fire pit, The Royal Cabin offers space to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the best of a Shenandoah Valley getaway.

📕 Property Guide

After booking, guests receive a detailed digital property guide with local recommendations, including favorite wineries, restaurants, hiking trails, and nearby attractions. The guide also includes helpful property details and tips to make the most of your stay.

🐕 Pet Policy

Up to three dogs are welcome at The Royal Cabin, and a per-pet fee applies. Additional dogs may be considered with prior approval. Service animals are always welcome. When possible, we appreciate advance notice so we can help our cleaning team prepare appropriately. For short-term rental stays in Virginia, emotional support animals are treated as pets rather than service animals, so they are subject to the same pet policies and per-pet fees.

🚼 Family-Friendly Amenities

Families will find helpful items for an easier stay, including two pack ’n plays, two full size freestanding high chairs, and children’s tableware. Additional items may be available with advance notice.

🚗 Vehicle Access and Parking

The property is accessed by a well maintained gravel road and driveway of about 500 feet. Most vehicles, including 2WD vehicles, can reach the cabin without issue. However, 4WD or AWD is recommended and may be required during snow or icy conditions. The driveway accommodates up to five vehicles.

🧯 Safety and Cleanliness

All linens, including quilts and blankets, are freshly laundered between guest stays. The cabin includes smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and other safety essentials.

🦌 Wildlife and Surroundings

The Royal Cabin is surrounded by nature, and it is common to see deer, rabbits, and even a pair of local box turtles in the garden beds. Black bears have also occasionally been seen in the area, so guests should avoid leaving food, trash, or scented items outdoors. While the home is carefully maintained, occasional insects may make their way inside, especially in a wooded setting. Please let us know if anything seems out of the ordinary.

🏡 Privacy

The Royal Cabin sits on three private acres, offering a peaceful and tucked-away setting surrounded by trees and landscaping. The property shares a short roadway with three nearby homes, though neighbors are generally not visible from the cabin. Because this is still part of a small residential community, guests may occasionally notice neighbors, pets, children, or others in the area. We ask that you help preserve the peaceful setting by keeping in mind that voices, music, and other noise can carry beyond the property, particularly when enjoying the outdoor spaces.

🧹 Property Care and Updates

We continually improve The Royal Cabin to enhance guest comfort. Furniture, décor, or small details may differ slightly from photos, but the overall quality and style remain consistent. During your stay, our landscaping or hot tub care team may service the property as needed. These visits are brief, exterior only, and do not require interior access.

House was very clean and well stocked. Great outdoor games for all ages. Perfect for our family and friends as we celebrated a wedding.

Comfortable and nice layout for group of nine friends during extended wine tasting weekend. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked as we do most of our cooking on these types of outings. Communication with owner was timely and responsive. Even the wildlife (deer, woodchuck, bunnies, etc.) were fun to watch as we relaxed on the back porch. All-in-all, a fantastic place to stay in a beautiful part of Virginia.

Our group of family members, all seniors living in different states, chose this place to gather for our annual get together when we learned our Washington State sibling was going to attend the national sheepdog finals at nearby Belle Grove. Matt is the best when it comes to communication ... he is fast, detailed, and pleasant to work with. Not that we needed much, the property was very well set up for hosting. The home had a very well stocked kitchen (almost more pots and pans than you could count), a good island, and a large table that accommodated all of us easily. We cooked at home multiple times and it worked well. A "must" for us is gathering spaces and we had that in the large "great room" as well as a large porch in front and another in back, perfect to different times of day. On this trip we didn't take advantage of the several game rooms, hot tub, and fire pit but nice to have the options. There were full baths on each floor, two on the main floor; our ideal house would be everything on one floor (just about everyone has bad knees at this stage in our lives) but few of those exist and we made this work for us. You are definitely in the country, but close enough to Front Royal and Strasburg for shopping, restaurants, and things to do (beyond going to the dogs). Highly recommend!

The exterior grounds are under construction. The porches are filthy and in need of a good cleaning. The interior looked clean but the floors and bathrooms need a good scrubbing. There are no cleaning supplies for the kitchen, floors or bathrooms. The 1st floor bed room has a bad odor. The bathrooms are dated and in dire need of a plumbing upgrade as there is no cold water in the second floor sink (valve broken) and there is very little hot water in any of the showers/tubs. The plumbing needs to be rebalanced as well as the HVAC. The basement and 1st floor bedroom were very cold when the 2nd floor rooms were extremely hot. The hot tub needed its water changed after a summer of sunscreen and oils the water was very cloudy and there was a ring of slimy material around the edge.Matt has done a great job decorating but, the mechanics of the house (plumbing and HVAC) need to be addressed. Matt is a very nice host and responds to text messages very quickly.
