Conveniently located approximately 22 miles from Myrtle Beach and 12 miles from historic Georgetown, the relaxed beach communities of Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach are best known for their quiet Lowcountry charm and scenic beauty. One favorite South Strand attraction, Huntington Beach State Park, borders Pawleys Island to the north and features three miles of beach, the National Historic Landmark, Atalaya (the winter home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington), and 2,500 acres complete with campsites, diverse wildlife, and activities for outdoor enthusiasts.
Brookgreen Gardens, a sculpture garden and wildlife preserve built on four former rice plantations, is located directly across from the park's entrance on U.S. Highway 17. It features several themed gardens with American figurative sculptures, trails through several nature reserve ecosystems, and the Lowcountry Zoo.
If you're looking for places to shop, visit The Hammock Shops Village. Located in the art of Pawleys Island since 1938, The Hammock Shops Village is home to the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock. Today, the village consists of small buildings, including local landmarks saved from demolition, accommodating a blend of shops and restaurants.
Another point of interest nearby is the waterfront community of Georgetown, the third oldest city in South Carolina. Visitors can enjoy fine dining, shopping, and touring historic sites.
Take a day trip to Charleston to experience shopping, a harbor cruise, a city carriage tour, or a plantation tour. Charleston is only 76 miles from Litchfield Beach. It's a picturesque and exquisitely preserved southern city with antebellum architecture, cobblestone streets, and historical landmarks.
Whatever your desire, the South Strand offers something on everyone's to-do list. We have a variety of restaurants, retail stores, miniature golf, entertainment venues, charter fishing, water sports... and, of course, nothing but relaxation.
