This is luxury with a sense of place. Every comfort you’d want is here, but Villa Koora was never built to be another sterile glass-and-steel box; it was built to belong exactly where it sits, in the jungle, on the Pacific slope, unmistakably Costa Rican.
Slide open the screen door, and you’re steps from cacao and coconut trees you can pick yourself. Each morning, butterflies, toucans, and a chorus of tropical birds move through the jungle canopy right outside your window. Troops of howler and white-faced monkeys often pass right through the property, swinging branch to branch and
chattering overhead, while sloths make their slow, quiet climb through the trees just above the yard. It’s not unusual to spot anteaters, kinkajous, agoutis, and coatis visiting the grounds too the kind of sightings you’d normally have to book a tour for, right from your own porch. This isn’t a resort version of the country; it’s the real thing, and it’s waiting for you.
The Villa
Villa Koora is a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom home set 15 minutes east of Dominical, on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast. The property is easy to access, with local markets and family-run sodas just a 10-minute drive away.
Nestled in the quiet community of Valle de los Caballos, this villa is private, secure, and recently renovated, including a complete kitchen remodel while keeping its authentic Costa Rican character. Every amenity you’d desire is here without ever feeling generic: whole-home air conditioning, wireless internet, satellite TV, a Sonos sound system that plays throughout the entire home and out onto the patio, washer and dryer and a dishwasher.
Sleeping and Living Spaces
Two master suites anchor opposite ends of the house, each with a queen bed, en-suite bathroom, a walk-in wardrobe, and an outdoor shower. A third guest bedroom also features a queen bed, with its own private bathroom just outside the door, complete with a bathtub. Every bedroom has its own private bathroom, and every room in the house stays cool and comfortable thanks to the new air conditioning throughout.
The newly remodeled kitchen is spacious and fully equipped, with an island bar seating and an 8-seat dining table ideal for cooking up fresh catch or blending smoothies from fruit grown right on the property. The grounds are planted with lemon, lime, orange, mango, papaya, lychee, guava, mangosteen, machete guava, and starfruit trees, and there are fruit stands up and down the main road as well, some selling local crafts too.
Inside, the decor tells its own story: local and regional artwork is displayed throughout the home, from Boruca Indian masks on the walls to handmade crafts lining the shelves a home with real character and a genuine sense of place, not a showroom.
Outdoor Living
The outdoor space is where Villa Koora truly shines. Native plants thrive in the tropical sun, and the 25-by-10-foot pool stays a perfect temperature year-round. Put on some music through the Sonos system, which reaches the patio just as clearly as it does indoors, and settle in; it’s common to spend an afternoon by the pool watching a troop of monkeys move through the surrounding canopy or spotting a sloth napping in the branches overhead. Outside you’ll find a barbecue, lounge and rocking chairs, a sofa, and a small grassy area for kids to play, all framed by sweeping valley-to-mountain views. Look out from the patio, and you’ll see nothing but jungle and mountains, not another building in sight the kind of view that makes you feel like the only person in the world.
Just five minutes down a trail from the villa is a private waterfall, with its own private deck and chairs overlooking the falls a perfect spot to unwind, or to roll out a mat and practice yoga with the sound of falling water in the background.

This property was perfect for our visit! There were two identical master suites situated at either end of the house which was ideal for two couples. Our favourite time of the day was sunrise on the beautiful patio enjoying all of the birds and other wildlife that visited. The house was well appointed with all the necessities for an enjoyable stay and the property management company was responsive and great to deal with. We have stayed at other properties in the area and this was our favourite…we would definitely stay again if we are back in Dominical.

My husband and I stayed at this villa for 8 nights with another couple. It was perfect for us! Such a wonderful layout with two large master suites and an additional bedroom. The view is incredible! We spent every morning on the deck enjoying sunrise and all the beautiful birds and wildlife. We had a flock of 5 toucans stop by on a few days!. We loved the pool and the beautiful landscaping. Really think this is the nicest place we've ever stayed! Truly paradise!!

My family thoroughly enjoyed this magical property. It was nestled in a lovely mountain setting and is beautifully landscaped with various birds and butterflies in view at all times. The home is nicely appointed as accurately reflected in the photos and listing. The location was perfect for us with Dominica 15 minutes away and other close by adventures at Nayaucaa Falls, Cordovado National Park, mangrove ecosystems, and myriad other beaches and waterfalls. After each of these trips we enjoyed cooking at home (NB for cooks - there are few spices), relaxing in the pool and playing games or watching movies in the living room.

The property was amazing as described by other reviewers. The mature and thoughtful landscaping was a nice frame for the view out to the jungle valley. We are birdwatchers and the variety of trees - from close in to far away - for perching was perfect.
The only negatives: queen sized beds in rooms that could easily handle kings. Dull knives. The patio could get hot on days without cloud cover - we ended up relishing the (frequent) rain.
Overall, this place ruined us for tropical beauty in any other place. We sent photos to a friend who commented "it's like a National Geographic show!"
